Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Murder of Medicare - Mr Hockey clears the decks for privatisation of health system

Behind the flash talk of a big new Medical Research future fund, the budget tonight signals the end of hassle free health care.  Australians will no longer have access to basic health care as a right. GPs are to be humiliated in having to become tax collectors in a complex new web of charges for patients, said Dr Con Costa, National president of Doctors Reform society of Australia.

The government has also moved to quarantine public hospitals with announced cutbacks to federal share of public hospital funding - and that public hospitals will be coerced into inplementing a nightmare administrative scenario ie try to collect fees fees from drunks, mentally ill, down and outers and the indigent in society.

Angry doctors have already posted their comments on social media: "This is atrocious. People will die. The people I see - homeless, low SES, alcohol/drug dependent, people with mental illness will not be able to pay for these extra costs. It's hard enough now to get access"

The budget is proposing to cut $ 1.5 billion from Medicare by the GP copayment Additionally they are proposing to reduce hospital funding by $1.5 billion per year.  The misleading statements about a $20 billion medical research fund are ridiculous. They are only proposing to spend $265 million over 3 years from 2015 .

The budget leaves more questions than it answers.  Will GPs keep bulk billing given that the Medicare rebate for a standard consultation is to be cut by $5 or around 15%! And if they dont keep bulk billing, how will needy Australians afford to basic GP care, blood tests, xrays when the copayment is a lot more than $7 etc?

How will states be able to continue to fund the public hospitals - even if they raise the GST to 15%?  How will public hospitals deal with the poison chalice of trying to collect fees in emergency departments - an administrative nightmare with no known solution to date?

The irony is that they are talking of Australians working until they are 70 and where we have an aging population, but that behind the mask of a medical research fund, they are dismantling and destroying one of the most cost effective health systems in the world.

The governments intentions are very clear.  They have accepted the narrative of the big end of town - small government and user pays, but they are gambling with the health of all Australians.  The budget is a wrecking ball for Australias public health system. The stage is now being set for the introduction of a user pays 2 tier health system run by mega private insurance funds such as BUPA and Medibank private.  The deal appears to have already been done.  Health costs will spiral and if you cant pay or dont have insurance you will no longer receive care in a first class facility.

This is not just a broken promise from Mr Abbott who described himself as the "biggest friend Medicare ever had".  This is the murder of Medicare.  Ending bulk billing will go down in history as the worst health policy decision in over 40 years, said Dr  Costa.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

The duo are stumped ?.

B1G "I admit that my mathematical skills leave a lot to be desired but this does look like around 10% (the amount of LCT actually paid to the ATO) to me"
In the low value luxury car you chose B1G it is 10%, so now do the maths  covering a luxury  car of say $250K and above. I could dig up my old slide rule for you.

Homework
1. Produce information confirming the alleged recent reduction in LCT from 33% to 17.5% (no waffle)
2. Produce valid information confirming  that: This present govt is proposing to abolish tariffs on future sales of luxury cars/vehicles." (no nonsense)

Oh gosh the homework/maths has proved too difficult, or is it because  a C&P answer is not available on-line, and  the statement made  alleging a reduction in LCT is nonsense?.   Both I would think,  plus  the fact that some basic research would  be required.

If all else fails in a debate,  bluster, or change the subject.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Yes, LCT is not the topic of this thread as it has many options for discussion. LCT  was mentioned, discussed and dusted off quite a few posts ago in this thread.

It is not a feature of the Hockey's  budget either, which gives lots of opening for discussion.

LCT seems to be, being used now as a reason to deflect  the debate from LNP failures so far.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Moves to repeal 457 legislation could deny Australian workers jobs, warns Labor MP

....Australian workers will simply be sidelined on future projects.

"The decision to change the legislation so that:

not even a 457 visa would be required to employ overseas workers on our oil and gas industry .....".........

The laws were passed last year to close what Labor said were inconsistencies exposed by a federal court case.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-05-27/australian-jobs-at-risk-if-457-legislation-repealed-mp/5481246

and i bet these future overseas workers will work for $2 dollars a day - Hey Gina?

"Yes, LCT is not the topic of this thread as it has many options for discussion. LCT  was mentioned, discussed and dusted off quite a few posts ago in this thread."

Actually  A3 it was introduced by one of the duo. Whereas it was not from our prolific C&P member, which hardly rates as debate/discussion, it was a definitive comment that is easily shown to be wrong. B1G then compounded the farce  with some selective  maths . I then challenged both to support their comments.

Result, bluster, or how about obfuscation.

In short, within a debate,  if one  uses statements that are not correct you will be challenged i.e P007.   B1G most of the time has little opinion other than that of others,  and this rare time chose to dabble without a hearsay safety net, so I questioned the post.

I did not expect an answer to my simple questions, and I was not disappointed.

So back to endless C&P's?
