As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

How exactly can they force through budget measures or force reform in other ways. Would they use existing legislation to do as much as they can? I wonder what that looks like exactly...

I have no idea. Whatever the mottlies come up with am sure it will be under-handed, evil and ghastly and have destructive results.

Respect climate science: Anglicans urge Tony Abbott to change tack on climate change policies
"The 23 dioceses of the church said they were gravely concerned that Australia’s target to cut carbon dioxide emissions - five per cent below 2000 levels by 2020 - was well short of what was needed."
"what was needed" needed for what?, considering our CO2 emissions are insignificant globally, and a % reduction in them even less so!
FACTS
Ex ABC article:
"Both ALP and the Coalition agree on the science of climate change, and have formally backed Australia's emissions reduction target of 5 per cent by 2020. But there are some differences:

Seems they plan on bullying, boring and threatening to try and get their bludget through. Maybe we can get a refund on the F-35 strike fighters, preferably before one kills one of our pilots.

The Facebook comment Liberal didn’t want you to see
........"So there you go.
Hockey more than doubled the forecast deficit by changing policies, forgoing revenue and making gloomy economic forecasts.
Then he (and my local MP, Karen ref. McNamara, Federal Member for Dobell) tried to blame it all on Labor.
All so he could justify his harsh budget (released not long after)....."
comments to follow:
"Just sent this thread through to my National Party rep. I want to ask him if he will stop spreading that slogan of ‘Labor’s mess’ and ‘Labor’s debt and deficit’. I am so sick of hearing it and it not being picked up by any journalist or any interviewer.
Thank you for a fabulous piece of FACTUAL commentary.".......
"The brazen-ness of their lies is beyond belief. We need to keep vigilant and turf these scumbags out as soon as possible...."
..."...you can count…next treasurer right here, facts speak for themselves.i am liberal, well i was, no longer..."
"....Has anyone noticed that many religious in the Coalition are not saying the oath (where they swear to god) but saying the affirmation instead (big difference on their conscience – they rationalise by saying to themselves they are not lying because they didn’t say the oath, makes it okay to stretch the truth). When attending Royal Commissions etc...."
"....
I always find it amazing that reporters don’t spend the time or the effort to do what you have done and that is look at the source documents. As you have demonstrated its really easy to write the truth.
This possibly has to be the worst most factless government in the whole of the Westminister tradition. By that I mean that they Lie at every opportunity.
The fact check unit of the ABC is pretty useless as well. They use flowery language like “Overblown” to describe a lie."....

We are abrogating our duty to refugees
The Age
Prime Minister Tony Abbott says that while Sri Lanka may not be an ideal society, it is a ''peaceful'' country and ''all of us should be grateful that the horrific civil war is well and truly over''. We are indeed grateful that war has ended, but Mr Abbott's comments betray a fundamental misunderstanding about the principles underlying the UN Refugee Convention.
He implies that because Sri Lanka is no longer at war, Sri Lankans do not need to seek asylum in Australia. But war and peace have no bearing on the validity of claims made by asylum seekers under the convention. Indeed, the convention simply does not apply to people fleeing or displaced by war. It applies to people who fear being persecuted on human rights grounds: on the basis of their race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or because of their political opinion. To that end, whether their home country is at war or not is entirely irrelevant to a person's claim for asylum.

A statement from the Immigration Minister says the 41 people on board were processed at sea and transferred to the Sri Lankan navy yesterday near Sri Lanka.

Former Liberal prime minister Malcolm Fraser was also scathing of the government, saying handing asylum seekers back to Sri Lanka at sea was redolent of handing Jews over to the Nazis in the 1930s
