As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

I understand that.
Yet you say "Regional areas of Australia have been economically deoressed for years, your airy fairy ideas aren't going to change that."
Nothing is going to change that and my airy fairy ideas are carp, yet you don't acknowledge that Geelong is an example where it has worked.
?
And that is regardless of hat Abbott said, YOUR local council needs to be doing something as well.
Answer this
WHAT DID LABOR DO FOR YOUR AREA for the last 6 years ?
As pointed out by others we are discussing CURRENT AFFAIRS/CURRENT GOVT in this thread. Did Tony Abbott try and cut dole payments when Labor was last in power?. No, he didn't. He is doing it NOW and what is happening NOW what the discussion is about.
I have asked this before but you won't answer
Do you give your local council a hard time about creating jobs in your area
Because it is not 'about me'. This is an issue that affects the whole of Australia... the proposed changes to dole & DSP recipients.
The lack of jobs created by a PM that promised them before being elected in 2013... (not 6 years ago).
Tony is in charge now (gawd help us!)

Two new, big hotels that were built in Wollongong in recent years, both were sold not that long after. One (Ibis) was bought by the Uni for student accom, the other (Rydges?) will be a private mental health facility.
That tells a story.

Didn't you say the other day on the forum that it was about what Abbott could do for "me, me, me" ?
No, in fact it is those who hate the so called left who use the phrase me, me, me, and insist on making everything personal.
Am3 talked about youth unemployment in her area and that was turned into a me, me, me accusation.
Same old, same old, instead of sticking to the thread topic about the CURRENT govt people divert the conversation with trivia about old govts and personal insults, then someone reports those who respond in similar manner.

If I did, you should be able to find it and re- quote the post. I have said many times, after you keep posting personal questions like did you do this or that, that I am speaking generally about the plight of unemployed people, not myself.
The fact you avoid or wont answer and say any ideas won't work shows you are not really interested
Rubbish. This discussion is not about others personal circumstances, never was. I as are many others in Australia (which is why the unemployed/DSP changes have stalled, are very very interested in the unfair burden Abbott is trying to force on them.
In improving your area or making sure jobs are available for your daughter.
Daughter(s) have/will leave this area soon after graduating. Not about them either.
Sounds very much like a case of you will never be happy unless Labor is in power.
I am pointing out this area has long term high unemployment rates. That includes any party that was in power ever since the unemployment rate became high. I believe Wgong lost a massive amount of jobs in the 1980's when BHP restructured. Job losses have continued.
Where are the million jobs he created ?? Surely some arrived in your area ?
Who is he? Now there have been no jobs created by Govt in this area (full time jobs) New highway's provide temporary work.
Or don't you know ?
If you don't know, the. How will you know if Abbott creates jobs in your area.
What?
I made my point clear the other day, same as today.
High unemployment rates in many areas of Australia... job losses (SA?) etc... Abbott Govt doing nothing apart from negative actions towards job seekers.
You can go off on any tangent you want, but that is the point.

Student accom is a good money spinner.
I know people who own near Melbourne and they make heaps out of it.
No wonder the uni purchased it.
Missed the point. Money spinner for the UNi... they don't go out and create 100's of jobs with that money. Although it would have cost the Uni a lot to buy the hotel, so investment may not be paying off yet.
Uni students would have to clean their own rooms...doubt there are teams of cleaners turning up their everyday.. like in a hotel, when people check in and out everyday or every few days.
The point iwas- if Wgong is the place to be and open new businesses why have 2 hotels failed in a very short time frame from opening.

Ye, this area has the 2nd highest unemployment youth rate in NSW? What is Abbott planning for them - make them change from Newstart Allce (higher rate) to Youth Allce (lower rate) until they are 25 yo. Because he thinks they should be working not getting benefits. Fine... where are the jobs
Real life example... 400 applicants for casual jobs in new restaraunt. 50 successful. 350 young people who wanted a job (even though it is a part time casual job) are unsuccessful.. Of those 50 succesfful, after a month some of them let go.. back to the dole queue.
Not everyday a new restaraunt opens either.

Hell, you lot are very thin skinned, nothing on here is that bad.
This thread maybe monitored since you started posting on here (joke, sort of)
Anyone can notify a moderator about a post, it doesn't have to be someone that is posting in the thread. Lots of views in threads, not so many posting.
