Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

This thread is going to die a slow death when the LNP get back into Qld,
the jobs market takes off, am3 has provided a house to live in for the wife killer, the boats have already stopped, the children have been moved out of detention, The Abbott Gov't voted against Palestine and many more successes.

But that's OK, being good Abbott haters and True Lefty labor supporters, I am 100% sure they will find another outrage bus to get on.

http://www.theage.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/gst-on-fresh-food-would-hit-poor-hardest-he...

Applying the GST to fresh food would be an attack on poor families, who spend much of their food budget on foods that are currently exempt from GST, a health group says.

Public Health Association of Australia president Heather Yeatman on Wednesday highlighted Australian Bureau of Statistics data showing the households in the lowest 20 per cent of incomes spend the lowest proportion of their food budget on fast food and meals out, which attract GST.

"This means that not only will they be more affected by a change in the GST on basic foods because of their lower income, but also because it is where most of their food dollar is currently spent," Professor Yeatman said

While most processed food is covered by the GST, fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, eggs, bread, some dairy products and other basic items were exempted from the tax under a 2000 deal between the Howard Government and the Australian Democrats.

However, government MPs including Trade Minister Andrew Robb and backbencher Dan Tehan last week called for the exemptions on basic food items to be reconsidered.

The federal court is being asked to overturn the environment minister, Greg Huntโ€™s approval of Indian company Adaniโ€™s $16.5bn Queensland coalmine because he did not take into account the impact on the Great Barrier Reef of the greenhouse gases emitted when the coal is burned.

http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/wayne-swan-slams-abbott-governments-...

Former Treasurer Wayne Swan has launched a veiled attack on the Abbott government while in Washington DC, saying things that Australia's conservatives are currently trying to dismantle โ€“ such as Medicare and the national minimum wage โ€“ are the very reforms that have made the country so prosperous.

His attack comes on the same day as the Abbott government is celebrating the historic Australia-Japan free trade agreement coming into force โ€“ which begins on Thursday โ€“ marking an important occasion for the government.

Speaking at the US Center for Strategic and International Studies, in Washington DC, Mr Swan said it is "no accident" that Australia has recorded 24 years of uninterrupted economic growth because it comes after three decades of deliberate reforms.

"They are the result of thirty years of structural reforms โ€ฆ like floating the exchange rate, bringing down of the tariff wall, enterprise bargaining, a decent minimum wage, Medicare, a strong transfer payment system and safety net and universal national retirement incomes," Mr Swan said.

Another example of frivolous holding up of business expansion by Greenies using the court system.

I'm hearing that Newman will lose his seat

Snap election called because most people are on holidays, not too bothered with politics while on holidays, held well before federal parliament returns, sport happy, psychologically timed.

If he loses his seat, it would almost be as good as the Bennelong situation.
