Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

A government in Chaos

Social Service Minister (Andrews) wrote letters to groups announcing their funding approvals were unsuccessful before Christmas.

New Social Services Minister reinstates the funding till  June 30 and will re-examine the issue.

MPs call for focus on ‘real world’

MARGINAL-seat Liberal MPs are in revolt over Kevin Andrews’s handling of federal cuts to community services groups, have challenged the government’s political strategy and are demanding a more “real world’’ focus on voters’ problems.

A fiery meeting of the “key seats’’ group, which includes about 30 MPs in marginal electorates, erupted on Wednesday as MPs challenged the government’s political direction after a briefing by Liberal Party federal director Brian Loughnane.

Mr Andrews wrote to groups days before Christmas and the ministerial reshuffle, in his then role as social services minister, telling them their applications in the latest round of funding approvals had been unsuccessful. The letters sparked a grassroots backlash to Liberal MPs.

On being sworn in as Social Services Minister, Scott Morrison immediately restored interim funding to the groups until June 30 to re-examine the issue.

Meet the new Whip, Scott Buchholz

He's the regional Queenslander who doesn't mind getting up early and gives a nod to his health by drinking low carb beer.

He was also a former chief-of-staff to Barnaby Joyce.

Joyce, now the Minister for Agriculture, describes him as a "very genuine" person, who loves a big hug and  has a "very, very direct" way of speaking.

"Sometimes disturbingly direct," he said.

...there are others within the Liberal party room for whom Buchholz' appointment last Friday was a puzzle, noting there are other candidates who are also deeply loyal to Tony Abbott but better qualified.

...But some Coalition MPs argue that Buchholz is not the right person for the job. They say the backbench will not adequately confide in him and he will be so loyal to the Prime Minister that he will not give Abbott the honest assessment of the party room that he needs.

Please, someone give us a break. How many MPs do we need who grew up with the wish to become the pope?

Do they expect people to believe that?

I don't. I think they only say they wanted to be the pope because they think people will judge them as honourable, kind people.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Bolt - "our ferally anti-Abbott media":  not the cause of Abbott's unpopularity! Didn't Bolt criticize Abbott for Knighting Prince Philip anyway?

2 Feb 2015

A knight is a long time in politics

These are the factors I believe explain the differences in response between Australia and New Zealand.

1. Australia's reaction is much more about Abbott, than the Prince. Abbott's popularity slumped last year after his first Budget, in which he broke election promises such as no change to pensions - their indexation has been changed meaning lower increases.
(for more on broken promises): Click here

Once you're in a negative spiral, you can do no right and poor judgments are amplified 100 times. If he had been popular, there would be criticism, not outrage.

2. John Key [NZ PM] is a more deft leader than Tony Abbott. Abbott says he has learned in the past week that it is important for Governments to take the public with them as they reform. No one ever needed to tell Key that.

3. John Key did not give the Prince a knighthood. He has the highest honour in the New Zealand system - being made a member of the Order or New Zealand - which has no title and little sentimentality attached to it by Kiwis.

4. Because it was announced in the Queen's Jubilee year in New Zealand, it was seen as a gesture for the Queen to appreciate as much as it was for Prince Philip.

5. Tony Abbott named only four knights and dames since reintroducing the title - two last year and two this year, which gave the Aussie public only two to talk about.

As the cabinet rallies around Abbott, their declarations of confidence sound more dutiful than heartfelt.

In only 16 months into a three-year term, Abbott has worked his way into an unenviable position. It's a lot easier to get there than to get out of it.

He did. I think abbott must have done some grovelling and got him onside again.   That might explain why his nose looked remarkably sun tanned.

Mon man.  I recall that, you are one of our problems, seeing as how you (self-admittedly) don't pay any tax on your income.

Leaner much?

You know something John?  Most of the groups that had their funding cut are groups that would prefer not to exist. They're groups that would prefer not to have to deal with a debilitating disease every day, they would prefer not to be homeless because they got dumped by their partner and lost their job, they would prefer not to be suffering PTSD after seeing their mate killed in action or after seeing the tortured mutilated bodies of children with regularity.  Most people would rather contribute than "take" as you put it.

How much tax did you pay Australia in your life time?

Did you pay your fair share or did you come here to retire?

You minimise your tax as much as possible which indicates you too have the gimme gimme attitude you despise in others. Most of those others are deserving and need all the support that they get.

Oh gosh,  Déjà vu thy name is IR

I think my answer to you posted 2 weeks ago is just as relevant, I note also unanswered!

"Mon man, you're a self-admitted tax avoiding leaner. You have no credibility and no authority to give anyone advice, unless it is aimed at those others of your ilk who are similarly immoral and unethical."

Interesting change of topic LR. So where have I  "self-admitted " or even just self-confessed to being a "tax avoiding leaner"?

"No credibility",  so why chat with me? or are you  self-attracted  to those  who you think reflect your own self-persona?

"no authority to give anyone advice, unless it is aimed at those others of your ilk who are similarly immoral and unethical."   Good,  then I can advise you to stick to the subject, and tell me (and P007) who owns Telstra.

I am self-worried because I own a bunch of TLS (with a lot of other "ilks")  and  would want to know who I am associating with.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Are you suffering from memory loss?

You posted, more than once, about how because you are so wise and so well prepared you avoid paying any tax.  You really should remember what you have said in the past.

That article is not about voters- it is clearly about marginal seat Liberal MP's views. Selective editing by you mm12 - leaving out the Morrison part -  the point of the article, as you know ,is hopeless LNP MP's that don't even know what they are doing and get moved along out of their job. Then a new one comes along and revokes their ill timed bad decisions!
