As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

When will any poster here admit that neither Labor nor Liberals have a sensible and worthwhile leadership?
Both Shorten and Abbott are as good as each other. Selfserving, arrogant and ignorant of how to run a good Governement. Their advisors are as useless as the party leaders. None of them has a clue how to restore our ecconomy other than selling more and more of our land to foreign companies.
Ask any of them a valid question and they will talk 12 to the dozen about nothing and pretend to know what they are talking about.
Most of them are professional Lawyers. Lawyers are actors and liars and study for years how to twist the truth before they get their Diploma. And I won't even mention minor parties or independants.
I would like to see just one person who is genuinly concerned about Australias future.
Stop arguing and unite into finding this person.

We have a lawyer and a pugilist.
(Well, the pugilist was a journalist for a couple of years before the internet, but swears he had matadata).
Which would you prefer to "run a good government"?

yesterday the STC former workers at Nauru wrote an open letter of compalint- they included the worker who quit.
Ms Vibhakar said she resigned in disgust because she felt her role as clinical social worker was "ethically compromised".
Shortly after she quit, the Immigration Department ordered her off the island along with nine other Save The Children workers amid allegations contractors had facilitated protests and fabricated sexual abuse allegations.
An independent inquiry by former Integrity Commissioner Philip Moss found no evidence of misconduct by Save The Children workers. (that is from an article in The Age which details the abuse)
this article from the Guardian also shows the letter within a link
in previous reports and articles, it was mentioned that one staff member quit which I thought gave the impression that the staff member had done something wrong

Erica, I am not a big fan of the current labor party leader but I really cannott stand tony abbott and the way he lied his way in
I would never totally agree with all policies from any one political party and I have voted for them all
I always vote for another party in the senate so as not to give too much power to one. It used to be the Democrats until Meg Lees destroyed them with her promise that she would never agree to the GST, now I usually vote for the Greens in the senate.
I was prepared to give the abbott govt a fair go as they won the last election, but all we have seen is them attacking various groups of Australians, one after another. When it comes to policies I can clearly say now that I prefer the policies of the Labor Party as i see them as fairer, (not perfect but fairer and more honest) I do not agree with the way both parties are selling off our country, nor do I agree with the priorities and free rein they have given to miners.
this was never meant to be a fight thread, it's more discussion of current news, although some do post here just to cause trouble.
a number of politicians call themselves lawyers, they have the degrees but quite a few of them have hardly worked at all outside of the political arena and yes, they are full of spin.

Australia Misses March Deadline To Submit New Emissions Reduction Target For Paris Climate Deal
Several countries have already submitted their proposed emissions reductions target to the United Nations while Australia remains reluctant to commit to new plans. The need for more effective solutions to climate change has placed Australia in the spotlight as a new report revealed drought conditions in some parts of the country are getting worse.

Abbott government stuck in its own tangled web of defence pay deceptions
The government's 'productivity-based' remuneration policy cannot be rationally and properly implemented.
Government policy requires improvements in remuneration to be 100 per cent offset by internal productivity gains. This is absurd for many reasons, not the least of which is that in just about all public sector organisations, including the ADF, productivity simply cannot be measured.
....In summary, the government has:
set up a productivity-based remuneration policy that cannot be rationally and properly implemented;
cheated on its policy by allowing small pay increases in exchange for reduced conditions of employment that have nothing to do with productivity;
refused to follow the practice of sensible employers and fix remuneration in relation to market rates for comparable employment;
caved in to pressure in the case of the ADF and turned remuneration for its personnel into a political plaything;
refused to provide evidence that pay adjustments so far approved are consistent with its policy, presumably because it knows they are not; and
confused debate by deceit, distortion, irrelevancies and red herrings.
Then, when it surveys the mess it has created, the government and the responsible minister, Abetz, turn around and blame everyone but themselves. Unless the government sees the light, this will end badly.

"Several countries have already submitted their proposed emissions reductions target to the United Nations while Australia remains reluctant to commit to new plans. The need for more effective solutions to climate change has placed Australia in the spotlight as a new report revealed drought conditions in some parts of the country are getting worse."
Spotlight ?
Fact
"it is not good news that only five countries, including the EU and the US, have met the 31 March line. Only Russia and Gabon followed on 1 April."
Gosh some "real world" stuff!
However, on examination it would appear chosen purely because of the possible negativity apropos the current "malodorous" "govt". No, really?
So D9275, do you not accept/agree with Australia's actual proposed emission reduction target?
Australia will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 25% on 2000 levels by 2020 if the world agrees to an ambitious global deal capable of stabilising levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere at 450 ppm CO2-eq or lower. Australia will unconditionally reduce our emissions by 5% below 2000 levels by 2020, and by up to 15% by 2020 if there is a global agreement which falls short of securing atmospheric stabilisation at 450 ppm CO2-eq
Perhaps the author of your quoted C&P, without any original contribution from here, also is averse to research (sorry), because Australia's intended actions have been advertised some time ago.
ABC News 6 Sept 2013 (sorry about the forbidden history)
Both ALP and the Coalition agree on the science of climate change, and have formally backed Australia's emissions reduction target of 5 per cent by 2020. But there are some differences:
ABC News Oct 2013 (that will keep A3 happy)
" Environment Minister Greg Hunt says the Government will not change its targets until it gauges the international response at the next UN Climate Summit, due to be held in Paris in September 2015."
"This is one input, it's a draft report, I respect and appreciate the contribution," Mr Hunt said.
"Our time frame remains unchanged."
"The world will make a decision at the end of 2015."
Anyway D9275, accepting that Australia's possibly revised targets (emissions) will be announced Sept 2015 what figure(s) would you accept/prefer for our carbon emissions reduction? Do you think the general target limit of 2ยฐC for global temperature rise is achievable, or like myself believe it is another political global talk-fest similar those which commenced with Kyoto?
Early announcement of the INDCs is important for the preparations of a climate deal in Paris. Although the UNFCCC evaluation of the post-2020 climate ambitions was postponed until October, transparency about the future mitigation efforts is needed early on. In particular as the drafted text for the new agreement includes the INDCs and should be ready by end of May. Given this timing of the process, it is not good news that only five countries, including the EU and the US, have met the 31 March line. Only Russia and Gabon followed on 1 April.

did I comment on the article??? no I did not
everyone is aware of this govt's stance on climate change, inless of course they have their head buried in the sand or are in fact myopic
no really???
