As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

All the self indulgence, seeking chuckles at other posters, achieves is to detract from the conversation about the topic at hand.
Slightly dated article by Laura Tingle
Being governed by fools is not funny
A bit like the old story of the frog that gets boiled alive because the temperature of the water in which it sits rises only gradually, we don't seem to quite be able to take in the growing realisation that we actually are being governed by idiots and fools, or that this actually has real-world consequences.
We finish the week with a Prime Minister who has lost his bundle and is making policy and political calls that go beyond reckless in an increasingly panicked and desperate attempt to save himself; a government that has not just utterly lost its way but its authority; and important policy debates left either as smouldering wrecks or unprosecuted.
At issue is not just whether Tony Abbott loses his leadership, or whether the budget bottom line deteriorates even further, but signs that our political system really is in deep trouble – not as a polemic point, but in a very real sense.
"Idiot" is the word that comes most often in Labor's focus groups when voters are asked about the Prime Minister. And lest you're thinking this is just what Labor would spin isn't it, we had a confirmation this week from focus group polling conducted for Fairfax by one of Australia's most respected focus group pollsters, Visibility's Tony Mitchelmore, with the small caveat being that these voters didn't describe Tony Abbott as an idiot but a fool.
Voters in Western Sydney – selected because they had switched their vote from Labor to Liberal at the 2011 NSW election – described the Prime Minister as "incompetent, an international embarrassment and a fool".
These perceptions are not just a problem for Tony Abbott and his future, but for the broader Coalition, given that the government's conduct in the last couple of weeks can only leave voters with the idea that the idiocy stretches well beyond the Prime Minister's office.

"Meanwhile the claims that there is a conspiracy to falsify BOM data went unchallenged on more than one occasion."
I am happy to debate science with those who understand it, but conspiracy nuts lacking any relevant expertise are really not worth the effort . P007 and chemtrails spring to mind together with SRBA.
However as you are keen to mention my lack of interest in a nut with no appropriate knowledge of the BOM/meteorology I will list some of my past comments apropos the BOM, even if you do not understand them! I would be interested in some MYOP support (understanding) of our BOM
AJ Perhaps you could source our BOM or CSIRO, even try NASA and NOAA
Most politicians have very little grasp of climate science, why not quote our CSIRO, BOM, NASA etc?
"The forums alarmists have................Tim Flannery a Mammalogist, Palaeontologist.............." SRBA you left out 97% of the world's associated scientists, and professional bodies such as BOM, CSIRO, NASA, Met office etc.
Vivaldi's Le quattro stagioni is a perfect analogy for variable short term seasonal temperature variations, whereas understanding of long term trends is best achieved using historical records for the country such as those from our own BOM:
Post some reliable references, of the same calibre as the ABS, CSIRO, BOM, I will take them from any period even 2004.
You will find the evil transmissions emanate from BOM radar sites, BOM are not evil, I have used them for years when I flew, and now when I go out bobbing in the Bay.
P007 one's credibility is assessed in a silly debate like this by references, so how about some good ones, CSIRO, BOM, NASA etc would be good,
Actually the scientific data shows there has been a rise, just not as great as predicted. Produce the evidence SF, NASA, CSIRO, BOM will do
Allow me to add another chuckle at you, because what you think is not supported by science. Research "greenhouse effect" CO2, water vapour, positive feedback, even our CSIRO and BOM. Then ponder ocean heat content history.
Some of the Climate Commission releases were based on the BOM studies/data, also the CSIRO, (no original scientific studies from the CC) however, these respected scientific bodies mentioned still exist if you want good apolitical science relating to meteorology and climatology.
(credible sources only) CSIRO, BOM, NASA or like professional organisations/ papers would be good.
There are many good reputable sources of information ( ABS, CSIRO, NASA BOM are among my favourites) which are reliable , and whilst I joust with LL I do agree that the media have a degree of bias. However, their "definitives" are normally reliable and not deserving of LL's ballistic treatment (apart from that nut Bolt)
research what various professional scientific bodies HERE and overseas are expressing. Why are you not prepared to consider the atmospheric studies/data/conclusions of the CSIRO, or the BoM?
NW, I suggest you quote some home grown reputable scientific bodies when you are grasping for credible technical information apropos carbon dioxide concentrations/mirrored global temperature rises, as the UK Daily Mail does not qualify. I also suggest you consider the term "trend". Try the CSIRO BOM
I can onlly say that if you want me to respond to a nut after that, in yet more support for the BOM, you must be one.

Joe Hockey and Peter Costello trade barbs over Abbott government's tax and budget strategy
Treasurer Joe Hockey has hit back at Peter Costello after the former treasurer accused the Abbott government of reneging on its pledge to introduce a "lower, simpler, fairer" tax system.
Everyone's entitled to give free advice and frankly, you know, that's what it's worth
That commitment is now beginning to look like a "morbid joke", Mr Costello wrote on Tuesday in a column published in News Corp newspapers.
Mr Costello, who was treasurer from 1996 to 2007, wrote that political debate is dominated by proposals for "higher, more complicated and less economic taxes" rather than lower taxes. He singled out Mr Hockey for foreshadowing a new tax on bank deposits and Assistant Treasurer Josh Frydenberg for saying multinational companies should pay more tax.

"Most people, especially those with a sense of humour , would know the difference between a parody and a business logo"
Here? looking looking looking. Still looking.
However apropos federal politics and the era of the 2 ringmasters, whoops, sorry, the 2 ringpersons, the Circus deftly achieved a parody of bicameral government under the ALP logo.

Why Hockey will have to clean up Costello's superannuation mess in May budget
Call it karma. It has fallen to Joe Hockey to undo two of the stupidest and potentially most expensive decisions ever made by an Australian government.
So great was the cost, the Abbott government reportedly considered axing the pension extension in its first budget.
They were made by the Howard government of which Hockey was a part. But they were driven by its treasurer, Peter Costello, and by the Treasury itself. Costello announced both decisions on budget night 2006 with something of a flourish. They constituted "the most significant change to Australia's superannuation system in decades".
hmmm no LNP treasurers on this award list
