Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

As I remember it Cros, it was when he was pretty low in the polls. Terrorism talk has always been a good temporary poll booster for him

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

do you think he got his facts wrong or made it up because it sounded good at the time Cros??

I think he tries to say what he thinks the electorate wants to hear, Deb. He can be very loose with the facts (and figures).

4 Kudos from the gang and not a peep from the captain for this, gosh:

"............So he takes the Telegraph's report on welfare jihadis at face value and does no fact checking on it. ............."

Chuckle,   I wonder if he has been reading  this thread too much, or is attempting to follow the lead of Harvey Shorten? :

"I don't think he gets it wrong. I think he deliberately makes false statements to be used by the chosen press to give the impression that the falsity is a truth."

Chuckle

Mr Shorten, in three interviews over 72 hours, claimed the Chinese government has imposed new tariffs on Australian iron ore. There are no Chinese tariffs on Australian iron ore.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

this article from the Guardian spells out the facts about the 'jihadis on welfare" lie  pretty clearly

http://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2015/may/27/story-of-australian-jihadis-overseas-and-on-th...

No Australian jihadis overseas were on the dole, Senate committee told

Despite News Corp claims that โ€˜almost allโ€™ Australian jihadis overseas were collecting welfare and Tony Abbottโ€™s vow to stop the payments, Senate estimates hears not one was receiving benefits

No foreign fighters had welfare payments cancelled under counter-terrorist laws passed last year because none were found to be claiming welfare, according to answers provided to a Senate committee.

Last June the Daily Telegraph reported that the โ€œwelfare nooseโ€ was tightening around Australian jihadi fighters because the prime minister had sought โ€œurgent adviceโ€ about the welfare status of up to 150 Australians fighting in Iraq and Syria.

In February, before the prime minister, Tony Abbott, delivered his national security statement, the same paper reported that โ€œalmost all of the wannabe terrorists who have snuck out of Australia to join jihadist armies in Iraq and Syria were on the dole or some form of welfare paymentโ€ and that โ€œmost had continued to collect payments from Australian taxpayers while training with Islamic State to become terrorists intent on wanting to kill Australiansโ€.

Writing in the paper the same day, the prime minister said he was โ€œappalledโ€ that the majority of those Australians joining terrorist groups had benefited from the welfare system. The government vowed to cancel welfare payments under the counter-terrorism laws it had passed late last year.

On 23 February, asked about reports that no foreign fighters had actually had their welfare payments cancelled, Abbott told parliament: โ€œThis is not correct. To the best of my knowledge and understanding, all of the foreign fighters who are currently overseas have had any welfare payments that they were receiving well and truly cancelled โ€ฆ the last thing we want to see is Australian taxpayers

But in an answer provided this week to questions that were asked in a Senate estimates hearing the day after the prime ministerโ€™s answer to parliament โ€“ February 24 โ€“ the attorney generalโ€™s department said that as of 24 February, โ€œit was established that no individual was in receipt of any welfare benefit payments and it was therefore unnecessary to use the welfare cancellation on security grounds provisions.โ€

In this ABC interview he corrects himself as soon as he's queried by the interviewer, saying "I should have said coal, not iron ore.".

A bit different from Abbott's misleading statement to the parliament.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

So if Nauru has banned Amnesty International, why?Got something to hide? The detainees are Australia's responsibility.

 The detainees are Australia's responsibility

Thanks Myo, that was the point of Joono's article, I know most people get that  Nonsense it was a C&P article from the HS

Show us the legislation/case-law to justify that. However, at least one poster  acknowledges that Nauru has done the banning. As to "hiding" read the 2012 report.

I would hope that most people would  actually  consider  the current legal situation apropos  detainees held on sovereign territory, rather than make silly comments however politically good they feel,  and Kudos tags they attract, but are wrong

"......the government's long-standing position that what happens in the camps is the sole responsibility of the governments of Nauru and Papua New Guinea and the private operators that run them......."

Nauru and PNG responsible for maintaining order in Australian-run detention centres, Tony Abbott says

"The position of successive Australian Governments has been that the Refugees Convention only applies to persons within Australia's territorial boundaries (that is, landward of the outer limits of the territorial sea),"

2012   (sorry about the forbidden history period)

LABOR will tomorrow introduce legislation into parliament to allow the resumption of offshore processing on Nauru and Papua New Guinea's Manus Island.

It seemed that Poor Me after her silly (but chuckleworthy)   "East Timor and Malaysian solutions" decided that Manus/Nauru were "OK".

History actually includes pre Sept 2013 (sorry)

The Article does not say that Nauru has banned amnesty international, it says that Australian and Nauru authorities have banned them

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

"outright lies from politicians is what gets me fired up"  If they do,   counteract them with reasoned argument and proof, not just a C&P sans comment chosen because it appeals to your bias, and the instant Kudos tagging

What gets me "interested" is obviously unread C&Ps that contain obviously incorrect statements  (Kohler, and also the strange post/ref apropos pensions), plus what is the "pits":    fabricated posts herein.

Where is  10yr  captain  Kudos?
