Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Environment Minister Greg Hunt has given final approval to Shenhua's $1 billion Watermark coal mine project in NSW despite strong protests by farmers and local MP and Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce.

It will be up to NSW Premier Mike Baird to give the final nod.

this is what he's said so far:

I think he'll be powerless to do anything but approve.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

It used to be phone towers even mobile phones,  power lines came in for "protests" with no idea between EM or  ES radiation. Natural gas wells where protesters do not know the difference between CSG  bores  and "fracking" bores,   and had no idea of the quantity and age of Qld's well established gas supplies.

Here in Melbourne  a while ago we had a group of protesters fiercely opposing the "Bay" channel deepening,  also quoting dire consequences which the costly extra scientific reports refuted and which did not eventuate.

The common theme is that mostly the protesters have very little  scientific grounding, refuse to accept scientific research/past studies, and use biased/erroneous information, and knee jerks.

A good tactic would be to highlight actual problems encountered/caused by similar established mining activities, but that does not seem to happen.  In the case of  Port Phillip Bay protesters they were wrong, and have sunk with little trace, but cost the Victorian taxpayer many millions of dollars in extra studies, which were also rejected.

RI-Australia relations do not affect cattle imports
The Jakarta Post, Samarinda | Archipelago | Sun, May 31 2015, 2:59 PM
Archipelago News

"Political relations between Indonesia and Australia, which have become increasingly strained after the execution of two Australian drug traffickers, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, on April 30, do not seem to be affecting Australia’s plan to export 11,000 cattle to East Kalimantan, an official said."

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Acvtually I mentioned the earlier link to indicate that cattle and need are somewhat linked.  Why, if the reports are true, would RI import more cattle than they  neeed?

Jakarta Post  Jakarta, Indonesia | World | Tue, July 14 2015

Indonesia slashes cattle
imports from Australia

Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce said the news was "disappointing" and he hoped to meet soon with Indonesian ministers to resolve the issue.

However, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop insisted the reduction in cattle imports was "a trade issue".

"We are in constant communication and I'm assured that it's a trade negotiation, it's not in relation to the overall Australia-Indonesia relationship, which is very strong and very good," she said.

Partogi Pangaribuan, the head of foreign trade at the Indonesian trade ministry, also denied that recent tensions were behind the decision.

"We imported 250,000 in the second quarter and we think that should be enough until August or September and domestic supply is also sufficient," he told AFP.

Under Indonesian law, cattle can only be imported if domestic supply is insufficient, he said, adding that shipments may rise in the fourth quarter. Indonesia has been pushing for several years to achieve self-sufficiency in its beef supply.

http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/bronwyn-bishop-job-bid-leaves-taxpayers-with-h...

Speaker Bronwyn Bishop has charged taxpayers almost $90,000 for a two-week European trip partly aimed at securing her a plum new job.

Mrs Bishop last year ran for the presidency of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, a democracy group based in Geneva, but she lost out to Bangladesh's candidate. It's believed her short-lived but controversial Parliament House burqa ban cruelled her chances.

Labor is demanding an explanation from Bronwyn Bishop after it was revealed she chartered a helicopter to take an 80-kilometre flight from Melbourne to a golf course near Geelong for a Liberal Party function.

The Federal Parliamentary Speaker opted for the charter flight to the Clifton Springs Golf Club last November, rather than using her Commonwealth car.

The estimated travel time by road is about 90 minutes each way.

The $5,227.27 cost of the trip is detailed in a six-monthly report to the Finance Department

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Apparantly her response was she "did it for the country". 🙂 As it was a liberal fundraising event there is no question it should be repaid. They certainly wouldn't allow the ALP or Greens to get away with it.

Mrs Bishop's total expenses for the period from July 1 to December 31, 2014 add up to just under $400,000, making her one of the biggest spenders in Parliament if you leave aside once-off office fit-out costs.

And $90,000 for a two-week European trip partly aimed at securing her a plum new job. Seems exessive for a job interview.
