As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

@j*oono wrote:Barnaby Joyce on four corners over the Halal certification story.
I don't have to worry about what goes into my mouth and I don't have to worry about what comes out of it.
I beg to differ.
what he actually said was:
"It doesn't worry me that it's halal. It doesn't worry me if the Seventh Day Adventists did it. It doesn't worry me if the Buddhists, ah, br- brought forward some new curry.
It doesn't worry me if I go to an Indian restaurant and the chef is, the chef is Hindu.
It doesn't worry me because, even on the premise of my religion, I don't have to worry about what goes into the mouth: I only have to worry about what comes out."
(which is based on a bible verse)

"oh yes i'd forgotten that the economy=we've stopped the boats"
Ah the fragility of memory ! Understandable when one recollects that the ALP failed to stop the boats, or produce a budget surplus.
Remember what proved to be the ultimate economic Swan song, repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated? : "I promise you a surplus garden", "I promise you a surplus garden", "I promise you a surplus garden", "I promise you a surplus garden", "I promise you a surplus garden",

This has to be worth a or two from the tag- team, and trawlers for any Yummy OS news suitable for home grown bias/consumption:
Here is an OS article from the New York Times covering very recent politics in the UK and the election of Jeremy Corbyn to become leader of the Opposition Labour Party.
Correction that has to be worth
. I mean gosh, US + UK+. Labour hard left troglodyte, absolutely perfect for home consumption.
OK, perhaps only as I have added a few comments of my own which is not exactly de rigueur.

"interesting article from The New York Times on our asylum seeker policies"
The last 2 OS links, though over a year apart, could almost be carbon copies of each other, but I do understand how attractive they might appear to some.
"one link to one article from Jakarta post does not constitute trawling OS newspapers," Really?
PS
"I hope everyone's reading the Jakarta Post, that's a good way to keep informed of what's really going on"

It's on! As sweet as it would be to see the back of Abbott, of course a leadership change could likely give the Libnats a second term of office.
The Libs have been banging on endlessly about the Rudd / Gillard / Rudd years - the "knifing" of an Australian PM etc. It's a delicious irony that they look like dumping their own leader, who won't even have lasted as long as KayRudd.
