Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

The scale of the government’s crisis on Monday was all too clear in the way Scott Morrison was offered the same job from two different leaders within the space of a few hours.

The first offer was an act of desperation. Shortly before the ballot, Tony Abbott approached Morrison to propose he run as deputy leader. There was no hiding what this meant: it would drive Julie Bishop from power, give the new deputy a choice of portfolio and allow him to replace Joe Hockey as Treasurer.

For all the talk of Abbott’s loyalty to his friends, remember that moment. In the end, and far too late, Abbott listened to allies who told him he did not have the numbers, needed Morrison’s active support to get them and would have to sacrifice Hockey.

A key point of contention was the way Abbott described Bishop’s position. He told Morrison that Bishop had asked him to quit when she had gone to him before question time on Monday. Bishop assured Morrison this was wrong, that her message to the prime minister had been that he had lost the support of colleagues and should face the partyroom.

To join Abbott as deputy leader, Morrison would have had to tear down Bishop, a colleague he liked and respected. He went back to Abbott and told him he could not run.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Yet another  "interesting" C&P from the Australian, but is there any actual comment to append to it?  Does it have the same authenticity as yesterday's  C&P from the Australian apropos the "secret documents" on the Internet?

This C&P (under "Opinion") has a point that perplexes myself:  "Scott Morrison was offered the same job from two different leaders within the space of a few hours."

The first offer:   "Tony Abbott approached Morrison to propose he run as deputy leader."

The second job offer:   "Soon after the ballot was done, Malcolm Turnbull asked Morrison to be treasurer"

They are not the same jobs   (but could be combined)  Currently Bishp J. is deputy leader and foreign minister,  whilst Hockey is treasurer.

A minor point I know,  but I must maintain my moniker as a knit-picker,  having had much practice with Poor Me and the Circus.

In the Ray Hadley interview, Morrison states that he was offered the job of treasurer, by Abbott, hours before the ballot. He goes on to explain that he declined, partly because of the difficulty of explaining to the Australian people how Tony Abbott felt Hockey was the best person for the job one day and Morrison the best person the next.
