Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-04-20/disability-pensioners-may-be-reassessed-kevin-andrews/5400598

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

I do love a definitive statement.  However, it should (might) be remembered that the "captain" when Lawler was appointed in 2002 was Howard.  However if you research back 13 years ago you will find a "crew" link. Give it a try!

The Howard government appointed Lawler under old legislation and the Circus was not inclined to remove him.  Well he did have "union links" .

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Lawler must not be very bright, ending up with a dodgy ALP trade union luminary like Jackson (among others!), but at least Jackson appears to have beaten the ALP boys when it comes to nicking trade union members funds. I wonder what Williamson and Thomson think of that?

"There are strong conventions against judges or quasi-judicial officers making public comment about matters of public controversy," Lawler was filmed saying on Four Corners.

George) Brandis referring to Nicola Roxon

“The Attorney-General has once again behaved inappropriately, and once again shown a misunderstanding of her appropriate constitutional role, in commenting on the case when it remains before the court pending the appeal.”

He said Ms Roxon, who was criticised for comments she made while the case was before the court, had again overstepped the mark

Yet there is a growing number of Labor MPs who believe Roxon's actions have demonstrated contradictory legal strategies, damaging public comments, prejudicial actions and poor political judgment. Of course, her opposite number, George Brandis, believes she has behaved in a manner unbefitting an attorney-general and should resign.

"There are strong conventions against judges or quasi-judicial officers......"
You could not be more "quasi" than Roxon was,  but then again she was from the same mould as Poor Me, and thankfully resigned from the position.

oh really??  I do love a definitive statement. me too!

Spoiler

http://www.businessinsider.com.au/the-fair-work-commission-vp-described-his-relationship-with-a-form...

Lawler, a former barrister appointed to the FWC by Tony Abbott, has a quasi-judicial role and made a number of startling revelations while being interviewed on “Four Corners”, including secretly recording conversations with FWC president Iain Ross over the past four years.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/conflict-of-interest-fears-over-michael-lawlers-support-of...

Mr Lawler, a former barrister, was appointed by Prime Minister Tony Abbott to a $435,000-a-year position at the commission, where he sits in judgment of pay deals and unfair dismissal cases, often involving unions.

try researching it yourself... whatever the year, Lawler was another of abbott's dubious appointments

AS Joe Hockey today waves goodbye to 19 years in Parliament, fellow Liberals are alerting each other: Don’t expect Tony Abbott to do the same any time soon.

The former PM remains angry after four weeks on the backbench and has not shed a belief he can get his old job back from Malcolm Turnbull

I see  that my below  (researched)  comment could  be somewhat  "confusing", and also the mention that some research into a "crew" link 13 years ago would be overly "cryptic" for some !

So I will explain.

A "captains pick" generally refers in this context to the PM of the day (captain), which was Howard when Lawler was appointed in 2002, not Abbott.

Lawler was selected by a member of Howard's "crew"  : The Honourable Tony Abbott, MP Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations,    not as the C&P incorrectly states (research) : "Mr Lawler, a former barrister, was appointed by Prime Minister Tony Abbott ......."

"whatever the year, Lawler was another of abbott's dubious appointments"   I agree,  someone with eventually such close links to  the secretary of a trade union not unknown for dubious activities.

One must wonder why this "dubious fellow" Lawler was not deposed by the Circus over the years they were in town, or was it perhaps that his dubiousity  was somewhat insignificant when compare with union  leaders activities, or was he perfect for the ALP as a dubious commission mole?
