Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-04-20/disability-pensioners-may-be-reassessed-kevin-andrews/5400598

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

""whatever the year, Lawler was another of abbott's dubious appointments"   I agree,  someone with eventually such close links to  the secretary of a trade union not unknown for dubious activities.

"what links did he have with the trade union back then?" ...........      None that I know of  in 2002!

"his 'secretive' affair began with Jackson in 2007" ................ Just when the Circus started, and they were happy with him for years, why?

Note the qualification    "someone with eventually such close links to  the secretary of a trade union not unknown for dubious activities."

eventually:        "At an unspecified future time"

One has to to appreciate qualifications, research, and  definitive comments (that stand up to scrutiny).

this should simplify things a bit for you

http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/eric-abetz-under-pressure-to-act-on-michael-lawler-20150712-giacrx.html

In 2002 under the Howard government, Tony Abbott appointed Mr Lawler to the Industrial Relations Commission, the predecessor to the Fair Work Commission. Mr Lawler can only be removed by agreement between both houses of Federal parliament.

no matter what 'spin' you put on it.... lawler was appointed by abbott

the papers are not wrong.. you are

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

"where is the proof that they were 'happy' with him"

That question actually needs to be asked ?????

How about the fact that the Circus was in town for some years and "strangely"  made no effort whatsoever to remove him from the Commission.   This would not surprise any reasonable person,  considering that Jackson was one of their own (then) and would accordingly give the ALP a Commission mole.

"did anyone know he and Jackson were having an affair?? I didn't.. did you "??"

Strange question indeed !    However, as research is apparently still not de rigeur, here are some excerpts from an article in:   THE AUSTRALIAN

"In the Fair Work Commission’s Melbourne headquarters on a warm November day in 2008, Michael Lawler’s role supervising industrial relations for the health industry was dealt a fatal blow.

It was there that a high-level delegation including a senior Victorian health bureaucrat met then Fair Work president Geoffrey Giudice to register a devastating complaint: that his vice-president Lawler was shockingly conflicted because he had begun a relationship with Health Services Union secretary Kathy Jackson earlier that year."

"They outlined information that had become an open secret in industrial relations circles regarding Lawler and Jackson starting a romantic relationship by early 2008."

"did anyone know he and Jackson were having an affair"    It would appear some did, even if we didn't !

"all the newspapers are not wrong".        "ALL"? , those pesky definitives

Really? :    heraldsun.com.au....."Mr Lawler, a former barrister, was appointed by Prime Minister Tony Abbott"

Or even posters? :  "Lawler was another 'captain's pick"....."as i already mentioned he was another one of abbotts 'captain's picks"

"abbott chose Lawler".   When he was just  a minister in Howard's government, and then the Circus kept him on for years, I wonder why if he was so "evil"

I know D9275,  because even though we, as you have wisely pointed out,  did not know of "the affair",    "it  had become an open secret in industrial relations circles regarding Lawler and Jackson starting a romantic relationship by early 2008."

And as most appreciate,  anything questionable apropos trade unions / industrial relations   is the purview of the malodorous ALP.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

that's right monman12-- what was abbotts portfolio in the howard govt?? do you know??

http://www.smh.com.au/national/kathy-jackson-and-michael-lawler-are-the-ultimate-cuddly-couple-20151...

Lawler snr reportedly befriended Tony Abbott through the church, and it was Abbott who in 2002 appointed Lawler jnr to what was then called the Industrial Relations Commission.

Oh dear  is Google broken?   however, just a few posts back is this :

"Lawler was selected by a member of  "captain" Howard's "crew"  : The Honourable Tony Abbott, MP Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations."

"why didn't the abbott govt. ditch him in 2013 or 2014??"

If  one researches the protocols involved  (Google is fixed now) and the time-lines involved apropos Jackson's fall from grace, all should become evident.

i don't know why you're asking me that when the abbott govt didn't remove him and praised Kathy Jackson- surely abbot would've known , there are numerous  photos of Kathy Jackson laughing and having dinner with various LNP members

I answered your question before you asked it back in post 14802

but that's OK, I don't read all of your posts either   Woman LOL

"but that's OK, I don't read all of your posts either"   Or political history ?

Post  14802 :

"In 2002 under the Howard government, Tony Abbott appointed Mr Lawler to the Industrial Relations Commission, the predecessor to the Fair Work Commission. Mr Lawler can only be removed by agreement between both houses of Federal parliament.
no matter what 'spin' you put on it.... lawler was appointed by abbott

the papers are not wrong.. you are.

Lawler was appointed by Abbott when he was a minister under Howard, not as you have posted:

as i already mentioned he was another one of abbotts 'captain's picks'

Mr Lawler, a former barrister, was appointed by Prime Minister Tony Abbott to a $435,000-a-year position at the commission

"Mr Lawler can only be removed by agreement between both houses of Federal parliament."     CORRECT,  I have mentioned protocols earlier

Actually that should read....." Mr Lawler can only be removed by agreement of both houses of Federal parliament."    This would indicate to those interested in political history,  not just C&Ps, that the Circus could have removed Lawler, with independents help, and didn't, and the Coalition, upon discovering that Jackson was in the familiar mould of union officials used to nicking members funds, wanted to and couldn't !

I suggest the dates associated with the above would be  informative.
