I've noticed I seem to respond more to hay fever these days but don't remember it having much of an effect on me when I was younger.
I also noticed when I eat prawns now I get a slight itchness which I don't recall ever having.
Is this an age thing???

I wonder if the fact that I stopped buying goose down filled pillows and buy non-allergenic polyester instead, and replace them religiously every 6 months, has something to do with my reduction of incidents of hay fever/asthma.

Nope.
It is the placebo effect of having "anti allergy" written on the packaging ๐

Prawns are treated on the trawler with a chemical to give them the nice pinkish colour, and I guy I know who has a seafood business says that out on the boat, nobody is too fussy about exact doses. You could be reacting to the chemical (which also may have changed lately) or the prawns themselves. Also many allergens and food intolerances take a period of exposure - could be years - before we actually start perceiving, or displaying physical reactions.
Another possibility is the immune system itself being under stress - no surprise at this time of year! I have an immune system disease, which comes with a few food allergies/intolerances and have noticed that if I'm tired or stressed or unwell in some other respect, any reactions are worse than usual.
If you're getting itchy/inflamation you should be mindful of your throat and any swelling there. I'm not trying to freak you out but I have a friend who had eaten avocado all her life and suddenly ate some and wound up with breathing difficulties and a head that looked like a soccer ball! She has to carry an epi-pen now in case someones slips her some avo in a salad or something.
I'll sign off on that happy note...
Marina.
It is as if you wrote that about me, but I don't know anyone named Marina.

I used to have a lot of allergies and when about 4 years old I started to have desensitising injections every week and this went on for 3 years and finally my parents gave up and moved from a wheat growing area to a major surburban area.
My mother was told most of my allergies would return when I was in my 30s and boy, did that prove to be correct.
I also developed Systemic Lupus in my early 20s so I wonder if all the allergies are connected to the lupus or if the lupus is a result of 3 years of desensitising injections (the injections were for several different allergens)
I am in my 50s and am constantly troubled with hayfever (and lupus).

I used to get bad hay fever and could never use feather or kapok pillows or bedding. Hay cutting season was hellish and many other plants set it off as well. Now I rarely get hay fever at all and use feather/down pillows and doonas all the time.

Possibly get a bit more Bob. I have noticed the asthma I get from dust etc has become more severe, but then it might be my new garden...
Give prawns a miss - seriously - they can cause very serious reactions and I wouldn't be taking the risk.
I suppose it could all be an aging thing, after all, our bodies are getting a bit worn out now aren't they, so could be more susceptible.
