Cards ( credit or debt) can now be waved or tapped on a eftpos machine ...takes a second...doing that would be quicker than handing over cash..especially if change is required. There is a $ limit for this feature $100?

Using this feature you have to choose 'credit'
for both a credit card and debit card. Debit cards you use your own money even when you select the credit option.

Even though you may see customers selecting credit option doesnt mean they are all using
credit to buy their goods.

The banks are still the winners though with the
new paywave/paypass as when customers us
e this ..credit the only choice..they receive a merchant fee where as if the customer selects savings they don't.

You don't have to wait a month to get a bank statement either. With netbanking you can access your bank transactions and balance anytime.

Remember when cheques were used? Now those did take a long time at checkout.

I use a debit card, but I select "cheque" can't remember why, that's just what I was told to do.

But I hate how it isn't always processed straight away.

sometimes my local IGA (for example) might not process it for 2 or 3 days, so I really have to be on top of what I do spend. so I generally resort back to withdrawing cash just so it's easier to keep a track of. (unless it is a large amount).

I select cheque with my keycard, it is always processed immediately through EFTPOS. If you select credit (with my bank, St George) it can take days to be processed.

I don't know Az, I just know I select cheque account.

I'm still a bit sus of the whole money through the air thing...

I always have pictures of it flying through the air in little pieces like the chocolate bar in Willy Wonka in the Mike TV scene

If it wasn't fopr the fact I get interest on money in the bank and my internet banking seems to go where it is supoposed to and is so much easier to pay bills like that, I reckon I'd still be using the envelope system of divving everything up each week into envelopes LOL

When I fiorst started working we used to get payed in real cash in our hands in an envelope from the pay office.

I'd go home and divvy it all up into the respective envelopes - you know, some for savings, some for phone, el;ectricity, petrol, food, rates, clothes, entertainment etc...

easier then, when the envelope was empty, you stopped spending.

now I go blind on paperwork trying to keep it all in line LOL

I select either savings or credit with my debit card and the transaction shows up immediately. Must depend on your bank.

If I use my credit card transactions can take a day or so to show up there.

I used to select 'cheque' (for eftpos) with the last bank I was with...as that was an account you could have a cheque book with if you wanted to.

EFTPOS has been available for at least 20 years, I have been using it ever since it was available.. nothing suss about it.

Re: Do you have a tattoo, your a criminal in QLD

yeah, the accountant tried explaining to me that I was supposed to press credit sometimes, (can't remember if it was for purchases or cash withdrawals) but meh, I could never remember and was always getting it wrong, so now by default, I just press cheque.

I've only been doing ionline banking for about 2 years maybe?

until someone drummed into me to use PayPal here on eBay, I was that person who always went down to the bank to deposit cash into their account LOL

so I've only been dragged into this eftpos era cos of eBay LOLOL

I think debit cards were a great invention.. can use the 'credit' feature to buy goods online and for the paywave/paypass at eftpos but using your own money.

Tattoos - there was a story in the local news here (NSW) that Tattoo parlours have to be licenced (new laws) and some are still waiting to see if they are approved.

The  legislation requires them to submit to police background checks, supply fingerprints and pay fees ranging from $699 for an individual to $2094 for a business.

Operators must disclose ‘‘close associates’’ of the business who are also subject to a police background check.

NSW Police Minister Michael Gallacher said the laws targeted organised crime.

“The new licensing requirements highlight the NSW government’s commitment to stamp out organised crime and outlaw motorcycle gang links to the tattoo industry,” he said.

The laws give police and Fair Trading officers the ability to search licensed parlours without a warrant.

Matt Rogers of Iron Anvil Ink Nowra said the law criminalised tattoo artists.

‘‘By making us prove we don’t have criminal backgrounds or links to bikie gangs the laws treat us like we’re guilty until proven innocent,’’ he said.

He was particularly troubled by the ‘‘close associate’’ clause.

‘‘You’d be hard pressed to find a tattoo artist who hasn’t met a bikie back in the day,’’ he said.

‘‘Bikers come through shops all the time; they’re a massive customer base and tattoo artists should be able to tattoo anyone without being scared to lose their licence.’’

NSW Fair Trading confirmed that it had approved just four out of 18 individual applicants from a region between Nowra and Thirroul with the other 14 applications still pending.

All 10 applications from existing businesses in the region were still awaiting approval.
