Dog attack sparks calls for segregated parks to protect smaller breeds

I was in favour of a dog park being established near where i live, but i have recently changed my view.
i would love a place where i could take FOO and let him off lead, but the thought of him being attacked by someones agressive dog has put me off the idea.
ive seens news reports of dogs attacking other dogs in dog parks too often now.

The park closest to me is a 'dog off leash' park.
What worries me most is that it has a children's playground in it - not fenced.
That shouldn't be allowed IMO
If you want to segregate smaller dogs from larger dogs, who polices this?

I recently received a letter from our local council asking for opinions of an off leash area being established near us.
I am in favour of it as there is no other such area nearby.
It is to be put in a large well established parkland area where there is a bike/walking path, childrens playground, seating, shade trees, water taps and drinking fountains.
The off leash area will be fenced off at one side of the area where there are shade trees, seating and water taps. The whole proposal looks good to me and the only reason I have not yet replied is that I will never use it so am a bit reticent to give an opinion.

The question is - is it safe & for whom.
As I consider myself a responsible doggy owner - that begins - like children - at home.
I expect manners - I have to teach & instill - I expect good behaviour - expected & instilled by all the family - socialising with other dogs - I have to teach & instill.
Dogs are dogs - like kids are kids.
The problem is a few don't instill the qualities of an acceptable animal - be it a dog - horse - whatever.
Talk to a vet - farrier - etc - some animals they don't mind looking after - some - well.
Sadly if these areas were only used by the responsible - they would be great meeting places.
Importantly - great for the animals - to be free & have fun - socialise & excercise.
There is one in every crowd though that will spoil it for the rest - always has been - always will be.

Where I live, dogs are permitted to be walked off lead at all times, so no need for off leash dog parks ...

Not really.
I'm in the big smoke and dogs are not allowed to roam freely or off leash anywhere.

Dogs arent allowed to roam freely here either, they must be under effective control at all times but they dont have to be on a leash .... So why the prison comment? Weird thing to ask imo
