I am considering down sizing the house.
I have looked a few places that say they are designed for older people.
But most of them have steps or stairs in them.
What I am think that I would like is a 2 bedroom with separate kitchen, lounge and the toilet separate from the bathroom. and a small garden.
Any suggestion what else to look for.

I don't care if the investment value drops, I don't want my children to care for me at home.... and they were raised to be independant financially.
LOL, I thought you were already 70, azureline!!!

Then I have been grossly mis-informed. My local council has no idea of how many
granny flats are in their municipality because they don't know. They said the definition
was for the structure to be dismantled when no longer needed but that they do not enforce it.
I live suburban, not bush fire territory
Looks like I may have spoken to a 'richard' in Planning. Will need to research it myself cos
that's where I was going
