In Sydney we called it elastics. Obvious choice for a name I would have thought lol!
Kids haven't played for a few decades now. They tried to bring them back into the shops about 10 years ago and it was a failure. I bought some for my then 12 year old niece but she didn't know about them.

I grew up in Canberra - it was called elastics there too. Lots of fun and some good exercise too.

I grew up in England and it was called French skipping. Not sure why.

Yes, I played..Lots of fun!
Some girls were very competitive and used to practice every day..I remember walking into a classroom and these 2 girls had even looped the ends of the elastic between the door handle and the window sill to practice during detention! lol
PS edited to add from Sydney, we called it elastics..

We must have had a thing about France. French knitting was popular at that time too.

What on earth are elastics besides the ones you have in your knickers waistbands?

Older gen. here. We did someting a bit more dangerous, until the nuns
put a stop to it. Like this - with long sticks and boy, did it hurt!
Don't remember what we called it.
