Why is it that so many Catholic teaching and institutions, like celibacy, directly contradict the teachings of the New Testament? Don't Catholics believe the Bible is the Word of God? And if it IS the word of God, what human being has the right to change it, even the Pope? What, is God fickle now? Does he change his mind?

Well, so you admit that drinking at Catholic weddings is NOT in moderation (nor is it at other times besides weddings with the Catholics that I know). Since this is in violation of the Catholic teaching of moderation, that just illustrates what I said earlier - that there has always been a wide gap between Catholic teachings and what most Catholics actually practice. Why do they choose to live in a way that their church disapproves of?

For me? Its a cultural thing :^O It is a tradition for a Catholic wedding to continue for 3 days. There is only one way you could possibly sustain that ๐

Just curious, G&M ... where in the Bible does it talk about moderation?

According the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
The virtue of temperance disposes us to avoid every kind of excess: the abuse of food, alcohol, tobacco, or medicine. Those incur grave guilt who, by drunkenness or a love of speed, endanger their own and others' safety on the road, at sea, or in the air.
I usually just sleep if off and drink a lot of water to flush the liver ๐

Did you know that 4 shots of vodka with pepper can cure the flu? My mother swears by it.

As you do ... ๐
Catholics also tend to consume booze at baptisms and funerals ...
My son's baptism was one party I missed out on ... he was 6 weeks old and I was breastfeeding ...
Never mind ... I made up for it later :^O

I'm sure you did :^O
I think Catholics would consider it rude not to offer limitless alcohol at such big celebrations.
But again, maybe its a cultural thing although I have experienced the same in Australia. I have been to a few Greek weddings and christenings. They do it even better :^O
