You can't force anybody to do anything by stealth - the word 'force' implies physical coercion and I haven't noticed any jihadis in my local supermarket herding people at gunpoint towards Halal certified products.
The whole point of Halal certification is that the product is labelled and identifiable, but I suppose anyone unable or unwilling to read labels before buying might complain they were being conned into donating.
you didnt watch the program, did you.
one of the issues raised was that companies
who pay for halal certification, do not label
their products in order for those who object
to financially supporting religious institutions,
can make a choice.
those who follow the particular faith have access
to their religious community websites where
all the products are listed as certified but not
necessarily labelled, as is the case with weet-
bix for example.
the need for greater transparency was one of
the issues raised in the program.

And presumably anyone who was seriously concerned about buying halal certified food could do the same thing - I don't imagine you need a special password to access those sites.
I agree it might be useful to have more transparency but 'force' still implies physical coercion and nobody has ever forced me to buy anything.
edit: Oh, look, I just googled list of halal foods Australia and bingo! http://www.halalsquare.com.au/groceries/

i disagree. i think the transparency
issue is very important.
The whole point of Halal certification is that the product is labelled and identifiable
and that is how it should be but it is not
the case.

If its not labelled then is is coercion and being forced by stealth to support a religious ideology that you don't want to.
If its not labelled then it is conning unsuspecting buyers to support a religious ideology they don't adhere to.

If you, and others, are against halal certified products, then, don't buy them. There are plenty of other options available.
Hasn't halal certification been around for 40+ years, or, am I thinking of something else?

If religious entities want to have certain rituals and practices on food why are we paying for it?.
Why aren't they charged the small surcharge it apparently costs? If this practice of taxing our food by religious entities is to continue then the money it raises should go back to the government to be spent on social welfare.
Why are we being taxed by religions? that's the question here.

It's not as easy as that as you well know. Many product are not labelled.
