Companies have the option to pay or not pay - you are surely not suggesting they should be forced to refuse.
Co-erced would probably be more descriptive of the practice.
You mean companies should be co-erced into refusing halal certification. How; by law, or by a mob of vigilantes picketing the factories to prevent the accreditors gaining access?

Halal certification should be discontinued to make it a level playing field for all businesses.
Muslims should make their own arrangements as to what is permissible for them to eat, or not.

Halal certification should be discontinued to make it a level playing field for all businesses.
Should we also discontinue organic and free range certification to make it a level laying field for all businesses?

I can understand the desire of Muslims to be able to buy halal foods, though it seems that the halal certification business has a certain whiff of stand-over tactics about it when companies who already produce halal-compliant foods must then go on further to gain official certification of that status in order to market successfully to the Muslim population.
What I would like to see is a clear and large label stating the halal certification and not just some tiny, obscure glyph in a foreign language which is concealed amongst all the fine print on the back of the item.
Why hide it? (does this remind you as it does me, of a certain Monty Python sketch?)

Not really the same thing is it?
organic and free range farmers don't make demands like the certification muftis do, do they. Like, sterilistation of eqipment and packaging must be done with alcohol-free packaging, or slaughtering equipment and storage must be kept separate from pig products.

Correction:
Like, sterilistation of eqipment and packaging must be done with alcohol-free products, or slaughtering equipment and storage must be kept separate from pig "contamination".

BIG difference between organic/free range and halal food being labeled. One is done to promote good health etc., the other is a load of crock .. Consuming non halal food, wont make a blind bit of difference to your health/well being, its just a man made up rule which some people are dumb enough to follow

Have you thought about what you just said?
If you have something to say put it.

You don't have to buy kosher sanitarium or halal if you don't want to, if you do, you may find that it is cheaper to produce items in bulk that cater for vegetarians, jews and muslims. If it is more expensive, don't buy it. Then you won't be charged.

That is not the point but I think you know that.
