how is the current structure of Halal Certification not hurting?
You might want to read the various submissions by the sikh community on the Senate Website.
It's about respecting peoples beliefs, all people, not just Muslims.

What will you argue when peak market forces kick in? You do realise that the 'bigger market' argument isn't sustainable right? When you allow religion to control markets you hinder free market principles.

I respect their beliefs, buying halal does not hurt me. I don't need to read any submissions because I am in favour of halal certification, just as I am with kosher. It really does not affect my life at all, we live in a multicultural society and I agree that everyones beliefs should be respected.
Dodgy dealings go on everywhere, especially the mining sector since you bought that up. But I don't stop buying petrol or driving on roads because of it.

you've addressed how it affects you, now address how it affects others that can't identify Halal Certified products? Address those that eat halal meat as a byproduct in something like bread even though their religion forbids it. Address those Atheists that have no desire to participate in the funding of religion.
Arguing that this bad think is ok, because other bad things happen - seriously, that's not even close to good enough.
If you agree that everyone's beliefs should be respected, then a good start would be not to argue against those that are fighting for their own rights to be respected. You're happy funding Islam, that's great for you. But don't expect everyone to support you in that. Contrary to some opinions, protesting against Halal Certification isn't about denying Muslims, it's about respecting the beliefs and opinions of others.

Sometimes money is a poor justification.Yes I get that the coal industry is hurting. Some of the posts in this thread have been against paying a tax or levy on food.
So if it isn't about money, what is it about?
People don't like to be scammed, Donna.

How is protesting against Halal Certification NOT denying Muslims? Is it just a protest and you don't actually want Halal Certification to cease? If you don't want Halal Certification to cease then why are you protesting? If you don't want to eat Halal Certified foods then why not research? There are lists available I am sure.

Food labeling is almost criminal in this country. I've learned that if you cannot pronounce it don't buy it. If something says it is healthy it probably isn't. We grow a lot of our own food now and I generally cook from scratch. It is getting harder and harder to choose what to buy when you shop with a hundred different choices for butter milk and bread and they are just the basics.
