GMO's

  1. Genetically modified foods (or GM foods) arefoods produced from organisms that have had specific changes introduced into their DNA using the methods of genetic engineering. There a two main types of genetically modified crops.

Bt, or bacillus thuringiensis, is a type of soil-dwelling bacteria that produces a protein toxic to many insects. Bt crops are engineered to produce the Bt toxin within the plant itself, acting as a built-in insecticide. Bt toxin kills crop pests by dissolving the insect’s gut lining.
Roundup Ready crops are engineered to be resistant to Roundup, a Monsanto brand of herbicide. The active ingredient in Roundup herbicide is glyphosate, a commonly used weed-killer.

I know very little about this topic. I'm Interested to hear what ya'll know or think about GMO foods.

Re: GMO's

I won't call you anything. But I will tell you to come here and talk to farmers in both North and South America instead of posting BS. But you won't , I'm sure. Tighten up the tinfoil hat, you're in for a ride!

And I am curious, exactly what do political figures in my country have to do with what farmers do in yours? Probably as much as they do here, I imagine.

Please can you change to your usual ID the one you use in the US instead of the (March 15 reg)  ID here which you have been posing though since your first post i  these forums 3 weeks ago. Better to use that one please.

Please, the tinfoil hat thing is a bit old now. Usually it's used when there's no power in the accusers argument.

OK, well political figures are the same as they are anywhere. There's good ... there's not so good .... and there's bad!

Hey do you like Neil Young?  He's a great singer and he used to be in a group with Rick James. Yes, that Rick, Mr Super Freak  himself! Anyway, this here is highly relevant to this topic. So please check it out  This here amazing song  will be liberating to both the mind and the soul. It will also answer all of your question. And if the desired effect works then it may leave you with more questions but that's OK. There will be a journey of sorts.

God bless Neil Young,  and l hope you will know more about what is precious.

Best wishes.

This the ID I use on the USA board. I'm not posting there at present simply because the craziness from Trumpkins has deteriorated to hate speech of the worst kind towars anyone who in't a Trumpkin. And if you don't like the phrase" tinfoil hat", I'm sure there's an aussie version I can use just to please you. I'll research that as soon as I start believing your conspiracy theories.

As for Neil young, he's a great singer and songwriter. So was Mac Davis. I generally prefer Mac's songs though. I know what is precious, my family and my country. And really good chocolate.

Re: GMO's

The radical extremist groups are very good at misrepresenting information, twisting the truth and outright lying. A lot of the rubbish coming out of Europe bears these traits, but unfortunately too many gullible people believe it.

I,m not a huge fan of GMO,s, but I do at least retain an open mind. As the effects of climate change become more apparent, I suspect we may have to adopt GM foods in order to prevent huge numbers of poor people from starving. The best thing that could happen is for reputable organisations such as the CSIRO to run proper long term scientifically based studies to research the effects of GMO,s so that future decisions can be made based on facts rather than the emotional BS rubbish currently paraded by environmental extremist groups as fact.

Where the ' heck ' do you get off.

Who the ' heck ' do you think you are.

A little respect for others - and not so much carp - would be appreciated.

Full of it.

Lal - if you think it is worth answering his rubbish - do so - if not ignore - as do most.

We are told to eat more healthily. Mor fresh fruit and vegetables, but eerything is poisoned before we get it in the shop. All fruit and vegetables have between 40 and 60 different insecticides on them, plus the chemicals in fertilizers and the GMO modification. Nothing is safe to eat or drink anymore unless you grow things yourself, but even seedlings from a Nursery or seeds have been chemically tempered with.

Where will it all end?

Erica

Summed up very well! This is one of the reasons why the children are having learning difficulties, developing allergies and intolerance, getting sick etc... It will only end when people are put before profit.

I suspect people are less healthy than generations past, but I,m not sure there is a lot of evidence to blame GMO's for that. ( because very few long term, reputable, scientifically based studies have been done ) It is more likely to do with the large quantity of highly processed foods we eat, high levels of salt and sugars lack of natural fibre, chemical preservatives and artificial colours.

There may be some truth in the claims that modern varieties of fruit and vegetables, developed for a long shelf life etc. and grown as a mono culture may contain less nutrients than more naturally grown foods, but some of this may well be because of a lack of micro nutrients in the soil due to over reliance on chemical fertilisers which lack many micro nutrients. ( sulphur, copper molybdenum etc. )

Farmers are becoming more aware of the importance of micro nutrients and these are now included in soil testing. Special fertilisers are now available that address this issue. Combined with development of better nutrient systems involving liquid fertilisers and more natural seaweed and compost based systems, this problem is being recognised and addressed by farmers.

If we are going to have this discussion lets at least base it on facts, rather than the emotional clap trap pushed by radical extremist groups..
