Germaine Greer

Have just been listening to an interview on ABC 24 and she called Juliar Gillard an organ grinders monkey the way she dressed. Here was this wrinkled stick with a head of hair that looked like she had put her hand in the power socket critisizing how another person looked. I personally have never admired this loud, overbearing feminist.

Re: Germaine Greer

In 1968, she (Greer) married Paul du Feu, a British remodeler and carpenter. They separated after three weeks, as he cheated on her and they finally divorced in 1973.

3 weeks? OMG

And yes, if he cheated then it is a fitting end. But 3 week int a marriage??

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Re: Germaine Greer

I think GG has spent a lifetime having things she has said taken out of context. Just as you have in the opening post.

Regardless, she is one heck of an amazing woman who has lived life to the absolute fullest. And she may be a bit crankier in her old age but she is still attractive for her age.

I admire and respect her enormously.

Re: Germaine Greer

It still counts.

both the marriage and the cheating.

edit: yes, she is the one who cheated.

Re: Germaine Greer

I think you will find that she says, she cheated, the husband didn't. She didn't like being married. Have a google for her interview with Andrew Denton?

Re: Germaine Greer

Greer was very scathing and smart mouthed about Julia Gillards style of dress on Q&A it would appear since the outrage she has made excuses and back peddled regarding her comments about Julia Gillard's dress sense.

Yep, this is what she said:

“Every time she turns around you’ve got that strange horizontal crease (pause for uproarious laughter from the Q and A panel) which means they’re cut too narrow in the hips.

“You’ve got a big **bleep** Julia. Just get on with it.”

I'm sure for some "Juliar" is sort of hard-wired into their consciousness,  not to mention their spellcheck. Man Happy

Absolutely will take it of my auto naming immediately LOL

Well, that has set back every opinion she has ever had on "feminism", surely...sounds exactly like the kind of remark she should be (justifiably) scathing about if uttered by a man.

Re: Germaine Greer

I think you are missing the context.

The discussion was about public comments about womens looks/dress. GGs comments (in her own call-a-shovel-a-shovel way) were basically saying that JG needed to understand her body and not get trapped dressing in a way that was expected cause it didn't suit her.

I think had she said " You've got a big ass Julia, cover it up" then yes I would agree with you. But she was saying the opposite - "You've got a big ass. Who cares. Get on with the job."

Re: Germaine Greer

Whatever she meant by what she said, it stands that she said it.

open to misinterpretation or otherwise.

gg has no right to tell jg or any other woman how she should dress, whatever the reason.

my point being that it is incredibly rude for her to say anything about anyone else's shape, and she should have realised how hurtful such a comment could be.
