Government jettisons family benefit pledge
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-05-07/proposed-family-benefits-increase-dumped/4673604
The Federal Government has dumped a promised increase to a family benefit payment as it continues to look for savings to plug a multi-billion-dollar budget hole.
Finance Minister Penny Wong confirmed plans to drop the Family Tax Benefit Part A scheme on Sky News this morning.
"We are not in a position to proceed with the boost to the family tax benefits as a result of the revenue challenge the Government is facing and the nation is facing," she said.
"This is a difficult decision, but a responsible decision, given what's happened to revenue."
The payment, which would have gone to 1.5 million families, was linked to the the mining tax tax, which is raising less money than originally forecast.
Next week's federal budget will reveal the total hit to Government revenues this financial year is expected to be between $16 billion and $17 billion.
It is believed the revenue forecast for next financial year will be downgraded by more than $20 billion.

Just digressing a little Did I hear this correctly ?
Jenny Macklin said yesterday on an interview that when/if the paid parental leave scheme is under the liberal government that wealthier working mum's (those who have great jobs because they worked hard) would receive $75000 per year but women earning much less would have the families payments of $300 or $600 cut.
If this is correct then she should have waited for Penny Wong's announcement.
These are 2 completely different issues so why didn't she say ALL working mums would get the same benefits under the paid parental leave scheme and ALL working mums would have the child family allowance taken away.

This is clearly an upsetting and contentious issue for the unemployable.

You can't blame Gillard for oppositions toxic behaviour.
It's not her fault Tony Abbott is the biggest sore loser this country has ever seen.
We will wait until September to see who the sore loser is and she will implode because I don't think she is the sort of person who would take defeat very well. The headless chooks will be scattering for cover and then the blame game will start.
