Government jettisons family benefit pledge

The Federal Government has dumped a promised increase to a family benefit payment as it continues to look for savings to plug a multi-billion-dollar budget hole.
Finance Minister Penny Wong confirmed plans to drop the Family Tax Benefit Part A scheme on Sky News this morning.
"We are not in a position to proceed with the boost to the family tax benefits as a result of the revenue challenge the Government is facing and the nation is facing," she said.
"This is a difficult decision, but a responsible decision, given what's happened to revenue."
The payment, which would have gone to 1.5 million families, was linked to the the mining tax tax, which is raising less money than originally forecast.
Next week's federal budget will reveal the total hit to Government revenues this financial year is expected to be between $16 billion and $17 billion.
It is believed the revenue forecast for next financial year will be downgraded by more than $20 billion.

maybe you are right about Rupert Murdoch but I would suspect the only way you would know this is if you are privy to their conversations and I have doubts that like me you would not be.
If you know something we don't please enlighten.
i belong to a large school of thought who believe the dominance of one man over our media is unhealthy. most journo's can't say this because they work for him or want to work for him so others have to say it. and of course nobody listens , like trying to sell religion.

but where is the proof LL ?, do you speak without knowing that this is factual, your thoughts are just that, your thoughts without substance or proof. do you know for a fact he dominates ( your word) all that work for him, I could not imagine he would even know most of the staff.
who says nobody listens ? Maybe you don't give others enough credit
