Government jettisons family benefit pledge

The Federal Government has dumped a promised increase to a family benefit payment as it continues to look for savings to plug a multi-billion-dollar budget hole.

Finance Minister Penny Wong confirmed plans to drop the Family Tax Benefit Part A scheme on Sky News this morning.

"We are not in a position to proceed with the boost to the family tax benefits as a result of the revenue challenge the Government is facing and the nation is facing," she said.

"This is a difficult decision, but a responsible decision, given what's happened to revenue."

The payment, which would have gone to 1.5 million families, was linked to the the mining tax tax, which is raising less money than originally forecast.

Next week's federal budget will reveal the total hit to Government revenues this financial year is expected to be between $16 billion and $17 billion.

It is believed the revenue forecast for next financial year will be downgraded by more than $20 billion.

but where is the proof LL ?, do you speak without knowing that this is factual, your thoughts are just that, your thoughts without substance or proof. do you know for a fact he dominates ( your word) all that work for him, I could not imagine he would even know most of the staff.

who says nobody listens ? Maybe you don't give others enough credit

well i did read one article last year where the journalist was saying murdoch gave his editors a fair amount of freedom. sadly the article was written by a murdoch journalist. but there is some truth in it.. he gives them some freedom.. but before he hires he already knows what they will do with it. 🙂

where is the proof i'm wrong ? i'm not sure you could prove it either way.

LL you are correct there is no way I would know but I admit that, you give the impression you know how he thinks or what he does and you know no more I than I do.

facts are what are important not assumptions, we can all pretend we know what someone MIGHT do or say n but if you don't know it is foolish to pretend you know more than you do.

Keep it nice, I might cry if you write anything upsetting (like not)

Personally, I find it funny that some people believe that if you have the opposite political view, or are undecided that it's the fault of the media. Differing opinions on what's the best way for an individual and their family is irrelevant, they're all sheep. Same people don't seem to realise that some of us voters view all one-eyed voters the same way.

I thyink that is best left to the "ancient" history authors here, let us be regaled (again)  with Abbott's student days and  when he was "prone" to viciously attack unsuspecting  and innocent walls.

His aim was to intimidate the victim, not attack a wall.
