Government jettisons family benefit pledge
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-05-07/proposed-family-benefits-increase-dumped/4673604
The Federal Government has dumped a promised increase to a family benefit payment as it continues to look for savings to plug a multi-billion-dollar budget hole.
Finance Minister Penny Wong confirmed plans to drop the Family Tax Benefit Part A scheme on Sky News this morning.
"We are not in a position to proceed with the boost to the family tax benefits as a result of the revenue challenge the Government is facing and the nation is facing," she said.
"This is a difficult decision, but a responsible decision, given what's happened to revenue."
The payment, which would have gone to 1.5 million families, was linked to the the mining tax tax, which is raising less money than originally forecast.
Next week's federal budget will reveal the total hit to Government revenues this financial year is expected to be between $16 billion and $17 billion.
It is believed the revenue forecast for next financial year will be downgraded by more than $20 billion.

2 different policies one is abbotts newstart.
OK, but she made a point or saying the wealthier working mums would get $75000 whilst women ie nurses would get the family allowance cut.
She did not say how much working mums ie nurses would get for paid parental leave.

Get a job earn around $150k then get pregnant, Tone will look after you 😉
BTW, this was a unilateral decision by abbott. Imagine the stink here if the PM had made a decision in this way.

Budget blowout so far from $7 billion then revised up to $12 billion & the latest blowout $17 billion dollars. I predicted a blowout of $20 billion or more. a few weeks ago & was being cautious. Gillard is still saying $7 billion as late as this afternoon. Tin ear deaf, when are we going to get a break from her lying?? never because that's what she does.
We will have to wait until this lot are kicked out before we get the real truth of the total blowout from this incompetent & lying mob.

Hi LL, seems jenny Macklin should have waited a few hours because Penny Wong said labor was going to scrap the $300 or $600 benefit, would love to see Jenny Macklin's reply.
They need to get the facts and their stories straight before TV interviews, me thinks.

maybe you are right about Rupert Murdoch but I would suspect the only way you would know this is if you are privy to their conversations and I have doubts that like me you would not be.
If you know something we don't please enlighten.

With seven days until the Budget it is clear that Labor’s Budget preparations are in chaos – and this is despite revenues still being up by almost 7 per cent over last year. http://lbr.al/kbkj
Having introduced 30 new or increased taxes, Labor doesn't have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem. Even after a $17b write-down in revenue, Labor will still receive $20 billion more than it did last year!
