Dentists have slammed the Turnbull government's new dental scheme, describing it as a "smoke and mirrors" plan that will cut $200 million a year from the system and put further pressure on public waiting lists.

I think you forgot something. The quotes you refer to come directly from a Sydney Morning Herald article. You seem to have forgotten ( or selectivly cherry picked ) to mention that later in the article it stated that only $312 million of the available $615 million dollar funding was actually being used. This was because the criteria for access was too restrictive. The Liberals proposal was to open up the programme to make it more accessable and actually spend more money on Public dentistry than what is currently being spent.
As I said in my last post. Lies Darn lies and statistics. He said, she said. Wha Wha wha !!!!
The proof is in the pudding. My wife and kids use the public dentistry programme for all of their dental care. Check ups annualy and any extra work attended to in reasonable time. Six weeks ago my wife had some dental work done and I the opportunity to sit in the waiting room for 45 minutes observing a new trainee receptionist being trained by an expereinced employee. She was running the new recruit through the procedures to prioritise more urgent dental work. There are processes in place to ensure those that are in pain and need urgent work can access it and from my observations of Phone calls and a chat with the receptionists the priority cases are getting attended too in a timely manner.
Due to health issues in our family we are very heavy, regular users of a number of government, publicly funded disability support and health services. On the whole we have found them excellent with the staff at the coal face, hard working, helpful and considerate. We genuinely appreciate having access to such valuable services ( provided under both Liberal and Labor governments ).
Unfortunately you just cant please everyone all of the time. There will always be the whingers and knockers who do very little to benifit the community themselves, but expect gold plated services laid on for free ( paid for by those who are actually working or volunteering their time in community service ) .

do you really believe liberal governments have at their core a belief in state (fed govt) sponsered charity?
why is it every liberal govt cuts govt school funding, govt public medical, govt aid in anything?
the times they have been kicked out of office pretty much has come after they have tried to cut something or do something that the mojority of the voters have said 'what? no we wont let you do that!'
john howard lost not just govt but his own gold plated safe seat on the 'work choices' debacle. not often a PM loses his seat in an election.
this last election, another month and we prolly would have a labor govt. so glad malcom scraped in, fun watching him squirm and wriggle trying to look like a leader when hes just a front man with no say at all.

They cut the funds and when the schools, dental clinics etc begin to struggle, the argument is made that it would be better to privatise them.
it's a deeply held philisophical postiton of the Conservatives that private enterprise, through competition, leads to increased efficiency and lower prices. well, it doesn't.
They're a mean and tricky mendacious bunch, this LNP.

Oh and by the way the cuts were only just introduced. There will be some lag time before it hits.
If it doesn't affect your local clinic, lucky you.Could be a safe lib seat.
Better still. Held by a minor party that took it off the Libs.
