NSW had a lot to learn from Victorians. I wish them the best but why did it take Gladys a month to realise that pussyfooting around this would do her no favors.
Now it looks like Morrison is throwing her under the bus too, as he does with everyone.

And I am not necessarily in favour of a reopening where only vaccinated people can be served eg in a coffee shop.
But I do think that mandating covid injections in some selected positions is reasonable. For example, all workers in the quarantine sectors. It makes sense that they should have some protection and also that they should be less likely to pass it on if in contact with covid and less likely to start an outbreak.
I don't think it is necessarily putting people out of jobs. It may mean eg that a security guard may have to work in a different area of security and not in Hotel quarantine.
Same with hospital workers in aged care.
I can see the same applying to workers on cruise ships or perhaps flights.
But I wouldn't be suggesting it open slather, across every single element of society and in every job or circumstance.
It's about balancing individual freedom and the right of society to be as protected as possible and what is reasonable and the safest course in some situations.
As always, nailed it again springy. Basically the same as I have been saying all along. A proportionate response to risk based on the medical evidence. I have said from my first post on this issue, that there may be valid medical grounds to temporarily apply " no jab, no entry " in some of the most extreme COVID risk services such as airline travel or cruise ship travel, but leaving it up to any business to potentially flout existing discrimination laws by announcing " no jab, no entry " is setting a dangerous social precedent.
By the states controlling which industries can apply " no jab, no entry " through States of emergency legislation, any bans would only be restricted to certain sectors and temporary , only in force when needed.
To She Els comment about burqa's in banks, my view is completely consistent. Is a refusal to allow burqa's in banks a proportianate response to risk ? ...............probably !

So who ultimately decides what is or isn’t a ‘proportionate response to risk’?
And is a woman wearing a burqa not exercising her inalienable right to dress according to the precepts of her religion?
on 12-09-2021 10:06 AM
And does a bank manager have an equally inalienable right to exclude from his premises anyone he deems to be a threat to the safety of his customers and staff?

I'd say he has that right although he would have to be able to defend his decision, which would normally mean he would not exclude customers except in very special circumstances.
Is bank robbery even much of a thing these days?
A better argument I think could be made for banning anyone who wears a burqa from driving. (If the burqa is that whole head covering where there is a net part over the eyes.) No side vision, so it isn't a matter of whether a person has the right to wear what they like for religious reasons (they have), but more about safety requirements, same as some people can only drive if they wear glasses, because a normal level of sight is a baseline requirement.
With the talk of vaccine certificates (I hate that word passports), the thing that would concern me is people do have the right to decide not to be vaccinated and I do believe they need to wear the consequences of that decision, but I also believe unvaccinated people have to have access to basic services. For example I read one politician wanted such people banned even from supermarkets. That's several steps too far as people need to eat and not everyone has a computer or ipad, even in this day and age. I would argue that access to banking services might be necessary too.
I did read about something that may be a part compromise and which may help. Apparently there are what are called quick covid tests where results are available within 15-20 minutes.
The suggestion was that if someone is unvaccinated, their job requirement may be that they have to have a test before entering their workplace. Now, this would mean they had to arrive perhaps a good 25 minutes earlier each day to fulfill the requirements but they would still be in work and although the extra time/testing might be a drag but would be an unavoidable consequence.
Maybe the same with some of these other institutions and shops. Perhaps they could require a clear test result from that day as an alternative to a vaccine certificate.

Sky News host Nicholas Reece says the “brave new world” of vaccine passports is about to begin in Australia.
“From tomorrow, the NSW Government has announced regional businesses outside of hotspot areas will be able to choose to refuse unvaccinated patrons as they reopen,” Mr Reece said.
“Earlier this week, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced freedoms for fully vaccinated people once the 70% double dosed target is reached.
“These include being able to go to hospitality venues, hairdressers and gyms, and have five people at your home.
“Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has said that Victoria is going to do something similar – freedoms for the double vaxxed, lockouts for the unvaxxed.
“This is what is coming.”

Good bye Australia. I never imagined that Australians would take part of a medical trial. It goes against the Nuremberg code and Geneva convention. Hey guys, celebrate now, but prison will be waiting for you " I only followed orders"!!!

Regardless of my vaccination status, I will never support any business that requires a passport

What a load of rubbish! Of course freedom can be regained.
My father lost two kinds of freedom during WWII - the first when he was drafted into the army and the second when he was captured and spent three years in a POW camp. When the war finished he regained them both.

And for those riding the outrage bus over vaccination passports, chew on this: I was 3 1/2 when the war ended and I still have the identity card my mother had to carry on my behalf every time she left the house with me. And guess what: I never once heard her complain about it or compare it to Fascism - she understood only too well the real thing

Two examples that are not comparable. Losing freedom in war time and being imprisoned by the enemy is totally different from what is being done to the people by their own governments.
Once vaccine passports are the norm, they will be kept indefinitely! And after the covid thing blows over or peters out etc., there'll be another excuse to keep them.
Look at what has happened with water fluoridation. A dangerous cancer and other illness causing toxic waste has been dumped in our domestic-use water. Our sacred, precious food is being genetically tampered with causing untold problems. Just a total disregard for the sovereignty of human beings. See my post below on another thread

The thing is, no matter where someone is in the world, when it comes to profit, human beings are collateral damage when it comes to profit by big corporations.
