Super nova, exactly a bloody disgrace, how any one can say treatment like that is ok has no feelings at all.
It was all over the news here in NZ.
I think some of the people here have commented with out seeing those shocking pictures, ok the kids did some thing wrong but those guards are whose then animals, sadists

Assuming thatt the detainees are aboriginal, which it appears they are......
I suspect that the same protocol exists in Australia as it does in the USA, where the prison population is high for African Americans.
A black person there s jailed for an offence for which a white person receives a fine and a good behaviour bond.
If I was black, both here andi in the USA, iI would be be full of anger too.
Racism is rampant in both societies.
I lived in the USA during the Washington riots. And if I was black at that time in history I would have been out there with them.
Until you understand what other races have to deal with from the day they are born, you have no right to pass judgement on their behaviour as a result of this.
Why do you think the suicide rates among young aborigines is an appallingg 5% ?

I agree with you absolutely Freshwater, but I feel the point so many people are mising is that the shock and disgust felt over this has nothing to do with the children themselves, what they have done or how feral they may be,
It is the behaviour of the perpetrators that is under scrutiny.
Those who opposed the death penalty were not 'pandering' to murderers
Those who voiced their disgust at what happened in Abou Ghraib were not asserting that the inmates were all innocent of any wrongdoing.
Those who deplored the use of waterboarding were not defending terrorists.
The basic truth is, there are some practices which are simply not acceptible in a civilized society and they cannot be excused or justified by the character of the victims.

The next question is:
Where are these feral kids going to be held now that Don Dale Correctional Centre has been closed?
It's not like they can be sent home with a slap on the wrist.
Most of them are too damaged to be released into the community.

NT Government backflips on plans to move youths from Don Dale to a Territory immigration centre
THE NT Government has backflipped on plans to move youths from Don Dale to a Territory immigration centre.
Chief Minister Adam Giles said on Thursday night that the facilities at Don Dale were โgood enoughโ and plans to move the children had been scrapped for the time being.
so, no, they're not being given a slap on the wrist and sent home
