It's just so stoopid to think God is a He and is like us humans - complete with judgements, prejudices and other "wonderful" human qualities.

Thank you meep. Yes, I did say it was stupid to refer to God as a He. That was insensitive now that I understand assigning a gender to God as Father is an important part of Christianity.

Basically I was, more to the point, referring to people assigning negative human emotions to God i.e judgement, revenge, violence, prejudices.

Yes, Gods and Men, you may.

I believe that the first miracle is that of my eldest surviving child. He has exceeded all expectations of the "experts" and no one can explain why. Maybe God took pity on me after calling back two previous children so early? I don't know.

My second one is the survival of my daughter. Even after 4 years of testing etc, the doctors still cannot explain her survival from her brain infection. At the time we were told she would be dead within the hour for 3 weeks, with every 10 minutes that she survived, a bonus.

Even one of her surgeons asked us if we believed in God, because He was our only hope, as they had no idea what they were doing or why what they were doing wasn't working. From then on, every day at least one member of the community to which I belonged sat at my daughter's bedside with us and prayed over her - and when we got word that the prayer chain had reached Japan and now encircled the globe - it was then that she somehow started being able to fight back and the surgeons were able to start containing and treating the infection without continually cutting it away. Until that point, the infection continued to grow more rapidly than the drugs or the surgeries could control.

I guess I should also include here the amazing community that has now embraced me and my whole family, despite my "fence sitting" ways. This community has supported us through some pretty rough times - especially with these two children -  and without their involvement, not one of us would have come out the other side as well as we have. I have no doubt about that.

Some people can go their whole lives and never really live for a single minute.

I try to be fair and use he/she interchangeably instead of using IT.  By definition God cannot have a gender.

Yes unfortunately, there are certain posters who think it's cool/smart to post in red to get their point across. That's intimidating and/or shouting in my book.

Believe it or not, that IS proof of God in your opinion based on science. Not good science but it is a reason you'll always use for the proof of God.

godsandmen

You kinda lost me there with " You are denigrating those who DO denigrate religion". Not sure I understand what you mean?

I've never denigrated Bob nor yourself. As I said I respect your posts godsandmen because you state your opinions/beliefs without personally attacking or twisting words.

I've also said in past threads that I respect the true meaning of Christianity. We Buddhists regard Jesus as a Buddha, which means "Enlightened One". Jesus preached love and tolerance, compassion and forgiveness.

The Buddha said not to take his teachings at face value. That we must question and apply his teachings directly to our lives to prove his teachings are correct. Just because someone calls themselves a Buddhist does not a Buddhist make. Just as calling oneself a Christian does not a Christian make.

But I would never intentionally denigrate someone's religion UNLESS that religion spreads hatred and fear.

Okay cat, I can accept that. I don't know much about you or most of the other posters here, so I know there is much to all of you that I am in the dark about. If I was wrong, I apologize.

As far as the Buddhist belief about "the true meaning of Christianity", well, the Buddhists may believe whatever they believe about Jesus and Christianity, but that doesn't make it the "true meaning".

I didn't even realise the red letters until someone mentioned it. I like a bit of variety.

No, it doesn't godsandmen. But as I stated I believe the true meaning of Jesus's teachings are love, compassion and forgiveness. Is that incorrect?
