just heard a breaking news story on ABC radio saying the NSW govt will ban greyhound racing as of mid next year.
as an owner of an ex racer but not in nsw i will watch with great interest this story as it unfolds.

i have never pointed to any owner or trainer and said they didnt care about their dogs.
my only real problem with the greyhound industry is the over breeding of dogs in the chase for that 'champion'.
i dont know how many dogs are born in order to get that champion.
the facts are, many hundreds if not thousands of pups are born out of which more than half are not winners.
dogs who dont win are of no use to the undustry.
the industry cant rehome the many nonwinning dogs (they call this wastage)
the industry if it has numbers for the dogs put to sleep each year for non injury or illness reasons will not say what those numbers are.
i have allways said, one dog destroyed for being too slow to race is one too many. unless they can prove they can reduce the wastage to zero then the industry must be shut down. IMO

Push for South Australian greyhound inquiry to reveal wastage rates

yes, lets get to the truth, just how many healthy greyhounds are being killed in south australia each year?

Greyhound racing: More than 500 dogs euthanased in SA
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-09-21/greyhound-racing:-more-than-500-dogs-euthanased-in-sa/7865162
i cant say i truly believe those are the real figures but lets say they are, 500 is a lot of healthy dogs.
if south australia gets an influx of dogs/trainers/breeders from NSW after the end of racing there it'll be interesting how they will reach any targets they are producing today.
i also think 140 in 2017-18 is a pipe dream, and still 140 too many.
on 23-09-2016 02:12 PM
i wonder what the greyhound racing fraternity would say if i led 140 healthy greyhounds into the center of the big track here in SA and anounced, "These are the 140 healthy greyhounds we cant find homes for as they cant run fast enough, we will now kill them while you watch"

this is why the industry must close down, these animals with no respect to the law or the dogs will keep being involved.
seems he thinks its just a lot of hooha, it'll blow over and i'll go back to doin what i do cos thats how i do it. he ought to be in prison, with his barrister.

Some very bad news this morning, David

that really sucks, the criminals have blackmailed a govt!
if this 'backflip' goes ahead mike baired must step down.
he'll have no credability.
its proof, we as a society are OK with misstreating animals when theres a profit in it.
all along ive said, its the killing of the 'wastage' dogs i was against, it'll be amazing if there is any real change there as we all know, everyone wants the winner so breeding will continue out of control.
on 10-10-2016 09:02 PM
So now everyone in the greyhound industry is a criminal now David?
Any fair minded person would see that you cannot close an entire industry because of a few rotten apples. It did not just affect the dog breeders/owners/trainers but hundreds of other people as well.
Mike Baird lost credibility when he closed the industry...he has clawed a bit of it back now by listening to the people.
But now the onus is on the industry to clean up it's act.....they have another chance so let's hope they use it wisely and weed out the rotten apples that are destroying their industry.

where did i say EVERYONE in the greyhound industry is a criminal?
i'm absolutly positive someone isnt (thats sarcasm btw)
i have said many times, try reading what i said in my last post, its not the FEW BAD APPLES that i think is the real problem with greyhound racing.
its the THOUSANDS............YES THOUSANDS...........in case you missed it...........THOUSANDS......of healthy greyhounds killed every year because they are not fast enough!!!!!
i have also said many times, if the "industry" could prove absolutly they could cut "WASTAGE" to ZERO i'd shut up.
but i'm reasonably intelligent therefore i know that the industry cant cut wastage to zero and still have an industry.
OH AND THERE WILL ALLWATS BE BAD APPLES WHEN YOU ADD GAMBLING-----THATS A FACT

@davidc4430 wrote:why are you talking about bad eggs and couriers?
i'm not a spokesperson for every wrong in the world
i'm not even a spokesperson for the ending of greyhound racing in australia
i'm just one guy who i my eyes sees a wrong in one place and would like to see that wrong made right.
if you have a problem with the decision to ban greyhound racing because you believe theres nothing wrong with the industry or you believe it really is just a 'few bad eggs' you go tell the nsw premier. telling me wont ever change my mind.
and i will never agree its just a few bad eggs, every person making a living out of greyhound racing is condoning the killing of thousands of healthy dogs because they can never rehome them all.
how many punters do you think there would be at the meets if there were adverts on tv like the stop smoking ones showing dogs getting put to sleep so they can have there gambling industry?
this is 'lucky boy', he didnt win any races, came 3rd once....only once, he was a lucky boy, he got to race, then he was put down as no one wanted a slow dog....this is 'dodge the bullet', unfortunately he didnt.
should i continue?
Hmmmm.. ..... from the post above "where did I say"
"and i will never agree its just a few bad eggs, every person making a living out of greyhound racing is condoning the killing of thousands of healthy dogs because they can never rehome them all."
