Re: Has Labor won yet?

Any candidate can request a recount right up till the declaration.   If either party suspects foul play in any electorate they can request a recount quite appart from the usual checks and rechecks.

There may be a couple of recounts  - Cowan, for one - but in the end I suspect Bill Shorten is rather relieved he won't be the one clinginging to power by his fingertips.

The ABC election computer has just given the Liberals the 76 seats they need to govern in their own right.
She el,.... Your suggestion that Bill Shorten would rather be spending the next few years in the political wilderness of opposition, rather than enjoying the spoils of majority government is wishful thinking.
All leaders regardless of political persuasion have massive egos and an extreme hunger for power. To lose an election in the current unstable poltical climate could well be the kiss of death for Shortens leadership aspirations. Should the current Liberal government serve its full term, the law of averages would indicate that Shorten would be unlikely to be the leader by the time the next election rolls around.
Yes Labours result in the recent election, as far as seats go was pretty reasonable, but they still had one of their lowest primary votes ever recorded .   Shortens leadership popularity numbers are OK, but not huge. As with all parties, there are some very big egos with leadership aspirations lining up behind Shorten. He might beat the odds and last another 3 or 4 years, but I,m sure he realises  history is not on his side. .

Re: Has Labor won yet?

I,m sure the Cosy Lefties Club will be lining up to point out that Turnbulls leadership could also come under preasure. While there may be some truth in this, the big difference is Turnbull won the election and Shorten lost it.

The voting public is sick to death of Prime Ministerial changes. These are usually only done for the self serving power plays of political factions and have little to do with good governance. I think the Liberals would be acutely aware that toppling another sitting prime minister would be very unpopular with the voting public and could well have major ramifications come the next election.

Re: Has Labor won yet?

I have never claimed to be well educated. I went to school in an isolated rural community with few students and did not have the opportunity of a university education. I left school and went sheep shearing for a number of years. I,m proud of my working class background and base my views on personal experience rather than popular stereotypical thought pushed by particular interest groups.

Faux Bushiesgirl - The fact that your only response to my posts is spelling corrections and interpersonal remarks is actually a compliment. It would indicate that you are not able to offer any intelligent rebuttal. For someone who recently wrote that they did not want to talk to me, you seem to be taking the bait pretty regularly.............Smiley Wink

Re: Has Labor won yet?

Yeah I think chameleon that Turnbulls position is more likely to come under pressure over the next 3 years- the libs in their own right got an even  lower vote than labor. Check the AEC website . I think the nats did better than the libs.

The ALP seem pretty happy with Shorten and his result-  though personally I think there are some talented people within the ALP who would make good leaders

don't forget that  around 50% of australians voted against the LNP, there's going to have to be lots of compromise in Parliament now, there really is no clear mandate.
