It is my son's birthday as well and he will be 14.
I found a Spock figurehead with a book of Spock quotes. At the bookshop
I was going to buy some Star Trek DVDs. From the tv series for him
Maybe a Star Trek throw rug.
Any suggestions for a almost 14. Chess mad, smart Star Trek fan ?????
.
Wow chess mad at 14. He must be very smart. I play chess but mostly against the computer as few of my friends play it. It is endlessly fascinating and I endlessly lose, lol, but do try to learn something. .
Sorry I don't have any suggestions for gifting, unless he'd like a little portable battery driven chess board which he plays against, unless he has plenty of live ppl to play with.

Can't give you links, but -
Star Trek Monopoly is good. Depends which Trek though.
There is Original Series, Next Generation, Continuum, Klingon
Type in Star Trek chess in ebay search - good stuff there
There are also posters (cheap IMO) of Star Trek characters
playing 3D Chess.
A Star Trek 3D Chess Set would set you back a coupla hundred

I will recognise the approaching festive season when I return from my Sydney jaunt. At which time I will panic and, no I wont, I will just calmly do all my shopping decorating and cooking.

Don't know anything about playing Chess online.
However, by being part of a Junior Chess Club, the opportunity to learn from coaches who offer alternate moves, strategies, etc. may be more beneficial than constantly losing online and becoming despondent.
This could be a little expensive of your time in transporting him weekly to such a club.
