I've been reading, and watching shows about food around the world, it's diversity and its similarities. And with Christmas coming, I thought I'd ask what your favorite special to the holidays dish is?

One of mine is Whoopee pies, one of my DILs is from Pennsylvania Dutch country and she makes them for us only at Christmas. They are so goood!

We used to have those slices every year for Christmas, Easter, birthdays, in fact, any holiday at all that we could have a reason to eat them.  That's beside the point that we were starving students most of the time ... Woman LOL

Some years I do "cheat" though Springyzone ... it all depends on the time factor.

I buy a chocolate Swiss roll from the bakery, slice a little off the bottom edge so it sits flat, and then make a chocolate butter icing and decorate it.  I cut a slab off the end to add the extra 'log' look.

This year though, I'll make the roll  ... sometimes I have to make two because the first one ends up having a cake-quake when I roll it and ends up looking like a mashed sausage gone berserk  ... Smiley Surprised

Lol, my grandson would turn that into a cartoon monster of some kind! Last summer he made us a spider cake , the legs were frosted pretzels, it was hilarious!Cat Very Happy

Nanathingy bars ....

From this moment on, I will always think of Nanaimo Bars as "Nanathingy Bars" .. a most splendid compliment to a Vancouver Island treat of delicious proportions!

Come on Tas - they should be accompanied by - a knock knock joke.

Am going up to turn on the PC - scan the Choc Pot recipe.

These are very, very nice - very rich - and served with cream or icecream - and can be frozen for the unexpected.

Dom .. I was thinking about making a gingerbread house this year ... the last time was about 8 years ago .. I had put all the icing decorations and candy on it and left it in the cupboard to be finished the next day.

During the night, the whole thing ended up in a kind of miniature Borg attack .. it became assimilated by thousands of ants ... Smiley Surprised

It was a dreadful experience!

This year, if I make one, it will have to have a big air tight box to protect it ... Smiley Frustrated

My granddaughter that lives with me wants to make a gingerbread house too! Somewhere I have an enormous Tupperware cake holder, I'll have  to did it out since we always get ants when it starts getting chilly. I hate those nasty little buggers...
