Homemade cooking - Lets ditch the beetles!

As a follow up to the beetles thread. As in what is actually in factory made food and food colourings etc.

What did you make at home???

I'll start.

I made bread and butter custard last night ....  was soooo delicious!

Haven't had that since teenhood in the 80's, twas the first time i'd ever made it myself.

YUMMMM.

Homemade cooking - Lets ditch the beetles!

3 cups SR flour
1/2 tspoon of salt
2 cups warm water.

thats the base recipe.
I added mixed herbs, garlic and onion granules to the mix and put cheese and bacon on top.

the dough is quite sticky, just pour it from the bowl into the cooker lined with baking paper

cook on high for 1 3/4 hours.
you can pop it under the grill for a few minutes if you want the top browner

I have a really nice one kabarine and I will put it here in photos because it's stuck in my recipe journal and it will save me the typing.  If you can't read it I will type it out if you're interested.

It says it's a tart but it is really a quiche.  It is a really good one to take to a 'bring a plate' type party as it looks pretty special.

For our American friends, bring a plate means take a dish or a salad to an occasion.  It confused us when we first came to Australia.  My mum and dad were invited to a get together and mum was told to bring a plate.  She was a bit embarrassed when she turned up to the party with a couple of empty plates but I'm sure it caused a laugh.

I've made this one a couple of times and it's yummy.

You may call it "short pastry", or pastry dough.

Thanks, Pepe.

You get a dessert recipe ...

McVities Chocolate Digestives
Whipped REAL cream
Bottle of your favourite sweet fortified wine (sherry, Marsala ... )

Take a large wine glass and show your sophistication by adding only a small amount of wine to it. Drink the wine slowly, tasting each mouthful, enjoy it.

Having shown the world your sophistication, pour yourself a decent slug and have a good gulp. That's the way to do it. Can you feel the warmth spreading through your body.

Find a sharp knife to open the biscuits. YAY!!!! Achievement!!! Have a celebratory glass of wine.

Before your next glass of wine, take the sharp knife and open the biscuits. That's it. Danger over. Relax. Havea nother lgass of wine.

Take a long plastic container shapped like a tisue bocks. If you can't fine one, then use too small boxes and halve the recepe.

Ha. Speeling going ... I'm keeping you mocnapy on this. Soon need nother boottle.

Apply whipped cream to one chocolat side bickie. Stick to nother bickie.
