How About a Gearhead Thread?

Have you ever had a car that you now wish you'd kept?  I got my driver's license during the heyday of muscle cars, when GM. Ford, and Chrysler were in a battle for the hearts and souls of young drivers, aided by songs like,

After a few "almost good enough" rides, I finally got my hands on my dream car.......a '65 Malibu SS with an L79 327.

Re: How About a Gearhead Thread?

Biggest problem I had with the Monza was the original 2.56::1  and the subsequent 2.90:1 gear sets.........I had the axles and brake drums drilled to accept 14" Chevy bolt pattern wheels, and slapped 50-series tires on Centerline rims.........but the rear suspension was for the birds.

On the return road at Redding in 1977.

Motor block was a 66 (took 5 before I found an acceptable one), bored and honed to 4.030" using steel crank and rods from a 64 Corvette, with new forged 11.1:1 pistons.  The heads were from an '71 350, effectively lowering the compression to 10.25:1.

A Sig Erson Cam, 600cfm Holley doublepumper on an Edelbrock manifold, with Hooker headers exhausting everything rounded out the motor.  I didn't fool with the HEI ignition, because it was a daily driver........which got 22 mpg on the freeway.

Re: How About a Gearhead Thread?

b.camp, i knew a fella here in perth had one, he found the original wheel pattern to be a design flaw

he chose HQ Holden stud pattern and fitted 14' wheels the same as how the A9X came out

he copied a few ideas from the A9X, electric driven radiator fan *what else did he do?!, disc drakes all round etc

either models had it's good and bad points, although minimal on the A9X the monza had the chev motor!

didnt have do much to them to make 'em go hey! but at the same time the A9X had an excellent power to weight ratio

I wish I still had my '69 kombi

We have drags here, um every month I think.  They use the local airstrip, and anyone can take their car along and have a burn.

Viewmonty, is that an early 80's SR250 you're sitting on?
