Wow............$50 000 is a bit expensive.
Both my nieces are getting married this year with a budget of $10 000 - $15 000.
This is for a sit down meal for 50-8- guests..........and wine or beer over the bar.
The only thing they did not have to pay for is entertainment.
Their father contributed as much as he could and the couples have paid for the rest.

If you have a 100 people and food and drink is $20 then there is $20,000 before you even get started.
Venue hire $5-10k. Cars $2k. Entertainment $2k. Flowers can cost $2-4k. Weddding cake can cost up to $2k. Dress up to $3-5k. Bridemaids $1k. Makeup for all $2k. Photography and video can be up to $3-6k.
There goes $50,000+ before you even book the honeymoon.
I think your Italian is showing martini

Nope. If it was an Italian wedding you wouldn't get much change out of $150k.
Average Australian wedding cost for 2014 was $36,000. Average Sydney wedding (according to this article) is $70,000. That sounds about right to me.

The first thing you do is NOT mention the word wedding. I saw an article just recently where they got quotes for exactly the same catering, venue, hair & makeup, drinks, photography etc. One they said was for a birthday (I think), the other for a wedding. The wedding quotes were astronomically more expensive.
I'll see if I can find it again.
yeah i saw that.
but i cant remember - how do you
get around that? how do you NOT say
what you require the services for?

i can understand why wedding photography
would cost more - but don't really understand
the rest: (make up, car hire etc)

That's the one, thanks julia. Staggering isn't it? There is no justification for it I think.

Faint memories of a cheap wedding in about 1970------mine
I had to be there.....iykwim ..was held in a small church in Carrum Vic.
The reception was in the kindergarden next door..decorated with .kids crayon stick figure drawings
and left behind bags and lunch boxes.
The guests were my sister and OH-a couple of workmates ..and all the 10 pound poms
that came here on the same ship as the future in laws.
Entertainment was provided by a jukebox-that had the wedding dance march thing on it.
Other entertainment was from the best man-who was as full as a state school bus
Catering was done by the 10 pound poms and one of em came up with a cake
-that i think was a stored xmas cake-becuause it had a bit of holly on it.
Photography was done by a workmate-------who owned a camera.
Wedding rings suppled by the bride -because she worked in a jewelry shop.
Bad timing for the .bucks night-was held wedding eve behind the flats i lived in.
Got thrown into the creek at the back and slashed my ring finger on a broken
bottle--this bled like a stuck pig when the man of the cloth tried putting it on at the wedding.
Bride arrives in the new FILs Vanguard spacemaster---belching smoke out the back.
