How do you like your soup?

I love this weather cold and raining, as long as we don't get too much of it.

Soup will definitely be on the menu tonight.  I go through stages with soup, am back into the smooth version, unless

it is a barley and veg soup then I like it straight up not blended.

There is nothing like the aroma of a pot of soup on the stove. I think it will be barley and veg tonight a personal favourite.

How do you like your soup?

Re: How do you like your soup?

I use a huge boiler to make my soup, I make heaps at a time and freeze it, the aroma drifting through the house in winter is kinda nice as well, gives it that "cottagey" feeling which I like 🙂

What about croutons?  I like to have croutons with my soup.

Bread cubes drizzled with garlic olive oil and baked till toasted crisp.

 Yummo.

And you need a pot or pan to properly roast spices if they are being used.

I don't see anything wrong with an appliance that can free up some time or can make you a meal in less than half hour that is healthy and tasty.

Many households have different foods on the menu for different family members or cooking for one etc so this can be an easier way to achieve that. The soup maker can give you a meal faster than take away food can be delivered or collected so it can be another excuse to eat better and you don't need to be a fancy cook to master it. If you are a fancy cook that is a bonus.

I am actually thinking of getting one to have at work in winter. Great way to share fresh soup daily and it can be ready for lunch

in no time.

Using my rice cooker to make soup,  I put the liner straight on

the gas top to fry or dry fry spices etc.

Just gotta be real careful picking it up to put back in cooker to continue.

So,  no,  I don't need another pot.

Re: How do you like your soup?

That's what I love about my new slow cooker, Ima.  The inner lining is designed to be used on the stove top too for sealing and frying.  Then you can plonk it back in the slow cooker and it's ready when you want it.  I did my last spaggi bol the old fashioned way on the stove and then put it in the slow cooker for when the boys got home because I had to go out.

Seriously, I'm just kidding about the soup maker. My sister has a soup maker and she loves it but she's got no time for cooking and doesn't enjoy it.  I love cooking and I prefer to go the whole hog and do things the old way.

Slow cookers -     Yes - I know - You can use a pot on the stove

I just bought one and using it today for the first time.

I got it because my poor old gas stove keeps blowing out when

I turn the flame down low enough for a 2 or 3 hour cook.

Then I don't know how long it's been without heat.

It just seemed cheaper than buying a new stove.

It didn't say I could use the liner on the stove top

But then it didn't say not to either.

The liner is ceramic.  Don't trust that on a flame

I've already got a nice beef casserole humming away nicely.

Smells great, so far, but will the meat be grey cos I didn't brown it?

Sorry to be long-winded but I'm old school and this

is a whole new  'animal'   to me
