Yeah real funny aps I'm choking on the humour.
I actually would be seething IF I was a seller and turning over $10,000 per year or whatever the amount set is.
I would be asking.....
Why should I as a seller pay 1 cent of tax to this Govt when they allow multi-national company leeches to get away with paying nothing on their MILLIONS made from - good people like myself.
Rules should be for everyone, not just for the few.
Hypocritical set of rules at the moment.....imo I do not see why sellers here should be too concerned as this Govt have recently sledged many positions at the ATO!

ref your previous comment (with speling and gramur errors corrected):
The companies apply the law as it is written in front of them, with of course as Kerry Packer said:
"you're a fool if you are not trying to minimise tax" or words to that affect.
..............................................................................................................................................................................
A great business person would not see this as good advice.....I believe that they would be aiming to pay as much tax as possible......think about it - economics 101
Multi-nationals need to be slammed dunked on tax issues in this country.....along with politician pay rates, retirement fund arrangements and perks.
How healthy would our Aussie Govt Budget if we collected what we should be from these REAL bludgers and leaners?!!

Then I would suggest getting a good accountant and work out a way of paying less tax and / or building your wealth
by getting as much assistance as possible - negative gearing etc.
BTW, you would be doing exactly the same as they do in that situation.

The number has ben reduced to $10,000 a year (since labor left such a mess the ATO needs to find more ways to get more money).
This $10,000 dollar figure also has postage on top of it since the ATO views the postage component as money coming to you. You had better check your postage costs on your items as this is counted as extra profit and the ATO will tax you on it which is not good as most times postage is more than the item itself-your $10,000 could easily turn into $20,000.
The ATO will also be checking your bank accounts to see if money has come in from paypal. If you do not pay your tax the ATO will garnish your pay if you get paid weekly/fortnightly from a regular job, and failing that will come after your house/assets etc.
It's pretty tough these days on ebay with fees, and with the ATO breating down your neck the only way for you to keep out of their reach is to operate in a cash only economy, although i noticed they are now cracking down on this too-apparently take away shops/bakers/trades etc often do this-the ATO are asking people to report for example take-aways who ask for cash only (i know one near me has been reported and shut down for operating in a cash only economy).
Hope this helps you considering your selling on ebay.

Paintsew007 ......., if we could just pause the head butting for one moment, ......( insert pause here ) .........I agree with your sentiments regards multi national companies not paying their share of tax 100%. ALL australian governments have been too slow to act in this regard.
This does not mean that everyone else should just forget about the traffic accident victims in wheel chairs, those with mental disabilities, retired older people who are starting to become frail or genuine single mums who are battling away trying to hold it together after their hubbies run off with a younger model. We all use the roads, send kids to school or want emergency health care when we need it.
Some-one has to pay for it all. I realise my views are probably a little quaint and old fashioned in this ME ME society but I think the fit and healthy should do their bit. Those that hide in the corner trying to get out of paying their share are just being selfish and greedy.
OVER TO YOU .........( head down, foot scraping the soil, horns ready to go )

The $10 000 is annual turnover. (so postage received, is included in that figure - which is no big deal either as postage costs are deductable)
Nothing to do with Labor, everything to do with making sure people pay the correct amount of tax on all their earnings..which is the same regulation under any Govt.
The ATO will also be checking your bank accounts to see if money has come in from paypal. If you do not pay your tax the ATO will garnish your pay if you get paid weekly/fortnightly from a regular job, and failing that will come after your house/assets etc.
Please provide a link to the ATO website where that is stated. Gross exaggeration in that statement. If a person (not on Govt Benefits) only income is from ebay sales, they can earn up to $18 000 tax free.
The ATO require eBay to give them details of sellers who have over $10 000 annual turnover from online sales. They know how much sellers have made from that information. Why would they need to be checking for paypal transfers?

You are promoting illegal activities on a public forum?
You don't believe in paying tax when you owe it?
