If I have to serve myself, then I want a discount!!
Give us a discount at the self serve till and I bet
more people would use it.
Problem then, though, would be those people
with overfull trolleys. Oh well, it was a thought...........

I live in the sticks.
What is this self-serve thing?
I'd use it if we had it.. the amount of times I've ducked out on bad hair, looking like sheet, dressed not to be seen are the days I see EVERYONE.

A separate wide aisle with self serve machines on each side. Customer scans their own items (or weighs vege etc), puts the items in the shopping bags, then chooses payment method etc, pays and leaves.
Saves big queues. Any queue for the self serve area, means waiting for one of 6-8 machines, not like a queue at single manned checkout.
People didn't like ATM's when they were first installed either. They are here to stay though.

Yesterday, Coles, mile long queues at the self serves and the 3 other checkouts that were open, they opened more normal checkouts thank goodness, I also refuse to use self serve on principle, the couple times I was conned into it by their staff the silly things never worked properly, so no more.

What about the num-nuts who have 3 or 4 things
and ask you if they can go before you?
Cos my time's not important!
"Use the express or self serve or I'll drop ya where ya stand!!"
(sorry, did I say that out loud?)

Thanks *am. I have seen them on travels but feel like a plonker not knowing how to use it so stick to the regular check outs.
I have no problem with it, a bit like atm's as you say.
I am on the anti social side these days lol so don't need cashiers for the chats and social stimulation.
