It's supposed to be just so simple.

The virus moves because people move it.

If people stop moving the virus dies.

That's all there is to it.Corny_cleaning-glasses.gif

Which is why we are at the stage we are now because people refuse to stop moving, ships were passengers

allowed in and further cases would come from flights coming in and they have to self isolate but need to get

home first and get supplies so will be active before they can isolate.Angry head bang.gif

Peoples self interest has high enertia and difficult for outside influences to change behavior unless there is a believed sense of impending serious loss or dread.

Starting a sentence with a conjunction is not cool IMO. While it is accepted by some (supposed) authorities, many grammatical experts regard it to be literarily unsophisticated. Having stated that, I sometimes do it myself because I am lazy.

My grammatical correctness is irrelevant if you do not understand what i am trying to convey

"enertia" is one word I don't understand.

So, they now put up new arrivals in 5 star hotels for 2 weeks and they are complaining.  Saw on news tonight these idiots who were rescued from some cruise ship that they are not allowed to leave their rooms, and how terrible it is.

Saw those reports and thought the same as you.

You know what is getting me though? The government is picking up the tab!!!

I think forcibly quarantining arrivals in hotels is a fabulous idea, gives the hotels some income in a time when they would be practically empty.

I don't believe they should necessarily be 5 star either. I think 3 star with food delivered would be fine.

They are forgetting that some people were on ships, locked in tiny inside cabins with 4 people, so a hotel room with TV and meals and a window is not too bad in comparison.

I would go further and say that all new arrivals should be paying for their own quarantine, as is happening in other countries.

If they qualify for centrelink, then some assistance but otherwise, pay their own way.

We have a lot of unemployed and it is going to get worse, the government should be saving money for where it will be needed most. And paying for hotels for travellers isn't it.

I think you're right in that some people are obviously flouting the rules for no good reason. They want to go out so they do-to the beach etc

If we could all self isolate for 3 weeks, I guess the virus would die down, but having said that, I can see we have a large number of people who do need to be out working. Medical staff, pharmacies, doctors, gravediggers.

We also need essential services such as electricity to keep on working and we have to allow some access to food supplies and for some food supplies to keep on coming.

I know there have been some hoarders but there are also people, some elderly or with mental health issues, who are not prepared for a 2 week isolation period, they would run out of food or spiral into depression. We're dealing with someone in the family who is going through this at the moment, she has had to come here.

It's a difficult problem knowing to what extent to shut down, but definitely clothes shops etc are probably not a priority. Also unemployment is getting worse. Two of my daughters are facing this. It's a worry.

Its a fine balance between slowing the virus spread enough for our hospitals to manage the influx of critical patients and stopping the whole system from collapsing into economic depression. If the economy collapses and masses are unemployed for several years the mental health crisis will be just as deadly as the virus.

Existing mental health patients will not be able to access services and may be the first to be impacted. I never thought I would say this, ( long term strong opponent ) but maybe its time to legalise Marijuana. ( seriously ) ..........If we reach economic depression its use is going to skyrocket as unemployed seek to calm their nerves and forget about their problems for awhile. Dope will be the go-to drug for many as it is readily available and is probably the least harmful of the current recreational drugs.

If we legalise dope we cut out the criminal element, raise some much needed revenue ( which is currently going to the criminal element ) and reduce the impending avalanche of people suffering depression and mental health problems. ( And yes I,m acutely aware that long term use of marijuana can contribute to chronic depression and trigger latent mental illness in some people )

Desperate times require desperate measures.

Especially those who boarded the ships, or went for trips, when they knew (or should have know) what is happening.  When you look by suburbs at the infection rates it is the more affluent places that lead the tally.  The poor people do not travel, and they will suffer the most from no income and most would have no savings.

Re: It's supposed to be just so simple.

I never thought of that. I remember wishing medical marijuana was available when my brother was dying of brain cancer as that other drug (forget what it is called, but a common one they use for pain) really reacted badly on him.

In the present case of my sister in law, a change in medication has had a great effect, thank goodness. Serious long term depression is a frightening thing to see develop in someone, it leads them to feel as if there is no hope and that ending it all is the only solution.

In our case, the person would never in a million years take any drug that was not prescribed and even then is suspicious.

It's hard times for a lot of people at the moment I suspect.

Per CSB on Thursday, a class -action lawsuit this month, filed in Florida USA, seeks to make China pay for their handling of the COVID-19 outbreak. I wonder which and how many other countries would do same. Interesting.

China did not mishandle the epidemic (as it was categorized then), they moved fast and introduced draconian measures to stop the spread.  The nation of 1.4billion has managed to contain the totally unknown virus within few months and ended up to date with 81,394 and 3,295.  Both Italy and the US have now more cases, dispite much smaller populations.  Italy also has 3x as many death as China.

The one country that seriously mishandled the situation is the US, they have the benefit of knowing what they are dealing with, yet they allowed such event as New Orleans Mardi grass to go ahead, and Lousiana is now fast becoming the most infected state.  They allowed people to holiday in Florida, and the people spent time on densely crowded beaches and in packed nightclubs, and now returning home to all parts of the US.  Their number of confirmed cases soared from 11 000 to 120 000 in about a week.  The only reason they managed to keep the deah rate at low level is their hospital system is not yet going over capacity, but give it a week or so.  😞
