Kitchen re-model

Mrs Wine and I are looking to get our kitchen gutted and a new one installed.  It's really old and unworkable (the kitchen, not Mrs Wine Man Tongue)  (i.e. we get in each others way, no dishwasher, limited storage etc.).  Has anyone done similar and are willing to share their experiences ?   We're getting some quotes - and we have our own ideas (not exactly the same as each other, but close enough) - but would love some ideas from the CS team.

What's ultra-important to you in a kitchen ?

Or maybe, what did you think was ultra-important and once it got done turned out a bit unimportant ?

Or what didn't you consider then thought really important after the kitchen went in ?

There's a thousand companies out there doing it, and ten thousand opinions!

Thanks in advance

Re: Kitchen re-model

Did you fall asleep with your finger on the return key?
I had my kitchen done just over a year ago, no dishwasher here either, never wanted one!
My kitchen space was limited too so the fridge went into the oversize laundry.

I love the gas cooktop. We got an electric fan forced oven with ours.  It just came like that. It was half price so we grabbed it.  Cook top range hood and oven in a package.

Re: Kitchen re-model

I did my own kitchen renovation last year.  I'm a bit sketchy on how to post photos, so I'll see how I go.

Re: Kitchen re-model

I did my own kitchen renovation last year.  I'm a bit sketchy on how to post photos, so I'll see how I go.  I went from this:

  P1020306.JPG

(oh look, its not that hard!!!)

To this:

What I wouldn't be without?  The bin cupboard (which I actually made out of a laundry hamper cupboard, so it pulls out) and the corner pantry.  Because the kitchen is sooo small, I couldn't be without it.  The dishwasher is actually a bit of a pain where it is, it interrupts the flowo of the kitchen when it is open, but there really wasn't anywhere else for it.

This one was taken prior to me fixing the cupboard door disasters - I was learning as I went, so there were a LOT of disasters!!

Re: Kitchen re-model

Just taking away the island made a big difference Joad. Nice work.
