I was so pleased to hear they found him, great work by all the volunteers and police. Every time this jkind of thing happens though I wonder in this day and age is it not possible to put an anklet like prisoners wear with GPS on people like this with Autism or dementure ,for their own protection.theres been several cases where these people do not get found in time and its just awfull.

, there are personal GPS trackers available and in use now. They are not cheap and generally you can't guarantee they won't remove them.
My FIL had one on his wrist that alerted staff if he went outside the perimeter door but he got quite distressed with it and tried to remove it, tearing his skin.
(The solution was to up security on the main door and make sure anyone who visits knows not to let others out)

Should have added, Do the GPS trackers have to be "re-charged"? Great idea, if acceptable by the wearer.

Yes, they do, just like a mobile GPS or phone, I guess
