Malcolm Turnbull's deal with gas exporters fails to address sky-high prices, says MP Andrew Broad
Unlike the PM, this mans idea actually sounds good.
ive heard the PMs idea that victoria and NSW should be opening up more areas to gas exploration would, even if it was made true tomorrow, would take many years before any gas was available to sell to anyone.

Forty years and more ago, as Victorians we were told that our gas would be the cheapest available, because of the close proximity of the off-shore platforms.
Pffffffft. Still waiting.

I own a few shares in Woodside Petroleum. I remember around five years ago, the company was trumpeting how they where building a new export port facility in Northern Australia and had signed an agreement with China to supply it with gas for the next two decades at something like 3 cents per litre.
At the time I remember it just sounded crazy to be selling our finite soverign wealth for a pittance when Australians where paying so much more for it at the time. Prices have only gone skyward since for Australian consumers.
Corporate greed and political expediency at its worst.

It is crazy to sell our sovereign wealth off so cheaply. Well, it's not crazy for the company to do that, obviously, as it provides profit.
Now, what is really crazy is to protest that company's unethical policies and practices and yet still to remain as one of their shareholders, wouldn't you agree?
