Rather than the black armband view of PM Thatcher.

A more reasoned & truthful piece by someone who knew her, was there & saw the big picture rather than the narrow view of the closure of no longer profitable mines (Labor closed more mines than Thatcher).

Coal mining in the UK killed more than any other industry in the history of industry. The cheap coal burnt in Scotland left health ramifications for generations.

Many fathers did anything they could to prevent their sons going down the mines.

At the end of the day it's the bottom line on any business balance sheet that determines if it continues or not.

The mines in question were not covering their own backsides regarding costs over production, but the closure of them only ended up serving the twisted reasoning of the unions and those working in the mines so they could lay the blame for it all at someone else's feet.

The facts say that the mines were a dead loss, so close them.

Re: Margaret Thatcher Passes away.

She was a saintly woman, and one of the great leaders who has arisen in a thousand years of British history.

Thank you for sharing, Windrake.  I seriously laughed out loud at that sentence.  An awesome start to my morning posting.

Moorna, I appreciate your response #98 to my comments.  Although we will continue to disagree, I found your post reasonable and thought provokingt.........and our minds do meet on some of the issues you raised.

I am aware and appalled by those who are 'richer than all his tribe' and the suffering of blacks under these regimes.

Once again, I did enjoy your post on SA.

I may well come over on these message boards as being firmly on the side of the whiteman, but I assure you I'm most definately not.

I simply see the issues from both sides of the story, and none are totally right or wrong.

I care deeply for my original homeland, just as much in fact as I care for my adopted land of Australia.

Katy, I  got an even bigger laugh from the download by Windrake of the National Review article written by CONRAD BLACK the despised ex press baron jailed for defrauding investors.   Is he still in the Federal slammer in the USA?

Re: Margaret Thatcher Passes away.

Just to clarify, Crystal-gems, it was Black who said Maggie was saintly - and, to be honest, I think Mags herself would have laughed at that.

Black was released in May last year.

Re: Margaret Thatcher Passes away.

what i find amusing is the constant ''UK's first female prome minister''  shouldn't that be 'only' or 'last' ? echoes of australia .. women and men alike find that hard to deal with. will julia be "australia's First female PM'' or 'last and only' female PM ?

Rip argentine soldiers.

Hopefully not the last Ozzie female PM but hopefully the next one will be more astute and not tell lies LOL. I heard someone compare JG with Maggie, not in the same ball park and an insult to Maggie to even compare them. Even though Maggie was tough she was feminine, can't say I feel JG is feminine.

Keep it nice, I might cry if you write anything upsetting (like not)
