Mass Shooting in Las Vegas

First reports show over 50 dead and hundreds injured.  Witness say the shooter used an automatic weapon........the NRA says, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people"...........well I find that a little simplistic........would have been hard of a knife wielder to kill that many people.

According to authorities the shooter is dead, they're looking for his girlfriend now.

The gun cockroaches are going to come out of the woodwork now, claiming that if someone had been armed, they could have stopped the shooter......bulldust.  No doubt any one armed  (and there were sure to be at least several in that big a concert) were busy filling their knickers.

Prayers and condolences to the victims.

First one has to differentiate between automatic weapons and semi-automatic weapons.  It is illegal to own an automatic weapon in the United States, but a semi-auto can be converted to full automatic.

It would be almost impossible to outlaw firearms, the 2nd amendment could only be canceled by a vote of the states, and that is highly unlikely.  However, with a sympathetic supreme court, it would be possible to require gun registration, for all weapons......and that includes the .380 I keep in the car, and the 20-gauge under my bed.

You keep a .38 cal in your car and a shotgun under your bed? One has to ask the question, Why?

A few more questions: doesn't the law require you to keep your shotty secured, like in a gun safe?

and . . . do you ever have children in your house or riding in your car? Your visitors' kids, or even your own?

and, seriously . . . are you telling us your guns aren't even registered?

The second amendment was written when guns where single shot, muzzle load muskets with gun powder flasks, wads and then a round lead ball, all packed down with a rod, pushed down the barrel. . It took five minutes to load the darn things and two minutes to prepare to fire it. I don't think Americas founding fathers had any idea about the carnage semi automatic rifles can inflict when they where writing their amendment. The American gun laws are a dinosaur that should have become extinct decades ago.

Both of my guns are registered, because I bought them from legitimate dealers, but many "personal" weapons are not.  No children in the house, and haven't been for years.  Having a shotgun in a gun safe defeats the purpose in the event of a home invasion. And young children in the car are in car seats.

While MPD is quite efficient, their job is usually apprehending perpetrators after the deed is done.

I agree 100%, back when the 2nd was written, most families depended upon hunting......that's why Americans had rifles instead of smooth-bore muskets.  In addition, the men served as militia, and trained on the village green.  We now have a standing army, and there is no need for a militia.

The gun fondlers automatically say that the founding fathers would have realized advances in weaponry would occur........and I counter with, if they had, they would have created restrictions at the time.

Which means absolutely nothing as it's simply another way that the nuts can sell a weapon to any loony in

the US knowing full well that they can turn it into a weapon of mass destruction to kill more innocent people.

They know a weapon that's sold to a private citizen such as a semi/auto has a high chance of being

used to kill other citizens,(yet they still sell them).

Why would you want to live in a country where you can get shot for no reason and you feel that unsafe that you

have to have guns yourself for protection?

That seems as if the US is at war with itself and private citizens need guns for protection from other private

citizens who are their enemies,(just like what's happening in other war torn countries).

Americans don't buy guns as part of a militia as stated in the 2nd,(they buy them to shoot their own citizens).

IMHO it seems that some do buy them for hunting or target shooting but it seems the majority do it knowing

that they have a high chance of having to use it to shoot another citizen in their own defense or to defend

their family.

Having a gun in the home also accounts for the high suicide rate in the US,partners being killed, family

members being killed and accidental deaths.

Obviously they are all acceptable casualties for the gun nuts.

Nobody in America is considering ban on guns; Hillary wanted stricter background checks and it lost her votes.  What needs to be done is to have strict license policy uniform for all states, and every gun sold has to be registered to a license holder.  If that was in place Paddock would have attracted attention of authorities long before he was able to do any harm.

I mean in the USA if you buy large bag of fertilizer you would be on the radar, but you can have 20+ machine guns an nobody notices.

Of-course, I feel for those killed, injured and their families, BUT they are as guilty as everybody else; they elect politicians who support the status quo.  OR even worse, about half of them could not be bothered to vote at all.

the reason nothing happens with gun control is that no matter how small the change might be the huge gun lobby group goes into overdrive with advertising telling a story of 'they wanna take your guns away'

and no matter what the truth is all the people hear is 'they wanna take my gun away'

i'm sure amongst the 500 injured and 50 dead there were some who thought owning a gun protected them.

i'm also pretty sure if i went to a big concert here i'd very likely not get shot.

and i dont need a gun to protect myself.
