can anyone advise me on hanging plants. No, not hanging my plants - they have done nothing wrong - I meaning plants that hang.
I have a retaining wall. I would like to plant some plants at the top of the wall and 'train them' to fall down to cover the retaining wall.
Are there such plants or would I have to plant some at the bottom of the wall and let them grow up the wall?

I'm going to assume Rabbits has gone to the Batcave, not having had a response in regard to aspect, materials and height of said retaining wall. I know he mentioned a preference to grow from the top to drape downwards.
There have been some good suggestions for sunny aspects. Although I'd be a bit reluctant with some due to root invasion of said wall foundation.
I'll take an alternate shady aspect. Rock orchids, bromeliads and air plants, stag ferns, ferns. Hung from the structure in pots - even better if it is a gabion type wall where pockets of soil are available.

Rabbit might be busy with family.
So.... hijack.
I can't grow Thyme either...................... the only herbs thriving are Basil, Chives, Mint and one I love the smell of but no idea what it is.
I had a pot from my mum's thyme but it lasted a year. My sister can't get it to grow either.

Coriander? That is sometimes hard to grow here. Everyone seems to complain about it, saying it is not worth it. But it is good for a lot of recipes.

As I had previously mentioned, Ivy Geraniums hang down and flower all year round.... Beautiful in hanging baskets or growing down
a retaining wall.

Wisteria is growing along the Brisbane river on the New Farm river walk..... hanging down from a walk through Arbor.
It creates dapple light as you walk the path..... lovely.

Rabbit lives in the Sunshine Coast hinterland (lucky duck). This is a description of his retaining wall.
The wall is 4 sleepers high so about 32". It stretches around 2 sides of the house so faces north (but mostly in the shade of the house), and east.
Will have a rethink about plants now.

Plant Hydrangeas at the bottom of the sleepers......they will love the shade, but grow taller than the wall.
As long as they get some morning sun and will look fab in mass planting..... view from rooms in house.

Growing quite happily in Brissie in my friend's garden
This is just beautiful. Some people suck on lemons too much. I wish I could grow that here. I don't have enough sun in my garden sadly.

Rabbit is on a three day eBali holiday, but asked me to give information about the retaining wall.
The area is near the Glass Mountans, about 26Km from Caloundra.
The retaining wall is 4 sleepers high, about 32" and runs along two sides of the house. Facing north, but mostly in shade, and east.
Now we have an idea what conditions any plant will have to grow in.
