THE average worker could be hit with an increased Medicare levy of about $300 a year in next month's budget to help pay for the national disability insurance scheme.
The federal government is seriously considering increasing the Medicare levy from 1.5 to 2 per cent after Prime Minister Julia Gillard warned "urgent and grave" decisions were needed to cope with a $12 billion hit to tax revenue.
The Daily Telegraph understands while the higher Medicare levy would be presented as a reasonable form of "insurance" to protect families from the huge costs of coping with a disability, no final decision has been made whether to include it in the May 14 budget.
Ms Gillard will face attacks that it is another broken promise after she last year ruled out increasing the Medicare levy to pay for DisabilityCare

HOw typical of LNP supporters to resent any contribution by taxpayers to NDIS...
I can see if abott gets in we are going to go backwards into the dark ages
ADSL will stay on copper wire with no forethought for future technologies
NDIS and Gonski will be scrapped, so the disabled will remain with little independence and respite for families, our school and tertiary kids will have a sub optimum education
The Medicare Locals system will be scrapt also...this new program is working very well in the community, but the libs are going to scrap it
So there we go, the ludite will have reduced technology, reduced education, reduced medical...
And dont try and tell me they would manage the GFC better than Labor...dont even try!
We would be starving if abbot had his way

Fiesta.. can you please show me where any LNP supporters have said we resent the NDIS or Gonski??
All arguments have been how are we going to fund it...
And Gillard has lied again and this is what makes LNP supporters angry.. she said no to a levy back in November... but now says everything is on the table...
Campbell Newman made this suggestion and he was howled down... he said QLD could not afford it and said a levy might be worth considering... ALP fans went crazy saying that he didn't care about disabled people....
he was just stating the facts that QLD was broke.. had no money... could not afford it.. but now that the ALP say they are broke and can't afford it all is meant to be forgotten?
I think a levy is good so long as ALL workers pay towards it.. not just the wealthy.

There you have it, the mentality of hand outs and more hand outs and the govt should pay for even more hand outs....
and they have run out of money but the welfare mentality we have bread in this country just keep on wanting more and more and more yet wont and dont contribute anything yet they expect others to continue to pay and pay for the never ending hand outs.
The well is dry so how do you fiestas*girl suggest we pay for all this welfare and hand outs and who has to pay?

Just in case anyone missed it....
an LNP supporter that does not dismiss the idea but just faces the facts....
We can't afford it right now.. unfortunately..
Yes we need to work towards affording it... but not at the expense of our economic future.. it needs to be planned and funded with care.
and a levy will apparently fall $5 Billion short.. so where do we get that money from?

I guess she and WS will run down to the reserve and print some more money, fresh, new dollars to spend so the black hole will get bigger.

LNP wil see us struggle like Greece and Ireland and the others!
doesnt anyone understand that the cash has to circulate, it needs to be spent.
Any economist will tell you that the spending of money has what has kept our nation afloat and gave us a TRIPLE A credit rating
If we stop spending NOW ie this year, will end up like Greece and Ireland...
no two ways about it
More tax revenue will be received next year and will offset the deficit...its not rocket science
there was always going to be a deficit no matter who ran the country ....make no mistake
the organisation that I work for is heavily involved in the NDIS, bigtime and close.
yesterday and today lots of discussion and planning at the big house. The word around the corridor is abbott will abolish it.
the dark Ages 'might' be upon us...and i am dreading it

Yes but how can you spend money that you don't have ? for JG the answer is simple - use credit and don't worry about paying it back just leave it up to the next PM and party to fix her governments mess.
